FOS

The Friends of Scouting Campaign is the 3rd largest fundraiser that the Council participates in each year.  Funds from the annual campaign are used to provide program service, camping/scouting opportunities for those who may not be able to afford it, facility upkeep and Scoutreach services.

Currently, the Council is at 86.7% of goal and needs $59,636 to pass the finish line.  As we all know, this year has been a strain financially on many people and we still need to ask others to support our cause. The resources raised will instill the values of Scouting for all who would like to participate, no matter what financial background that they come from. We are excited to announce that the Indian Trails and Wisconsin River districts have crossed the finish line. Great job to both of these districts.

Make Your New Year Training Resolution
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
trained patch
The future of Scouting depends on trained leaders today. It is no secret that the trained leaders are more successful in program delivery, retain youth and parents in the program longer, and feel more personal satisfaction in a job well-done. Long-term, a trained leader is a better representative of the chartered organization that is using the Scouting program. Many leaders have commented that training has been of benefit in other roles also. Training will make you a better leader, in many ways. Every scout deserves a trained leader.
The National BSA goals for the upcoming year will look for all leaders to attend training for their specific registered position. This initiative has been included in the 2011 Quality Unit goals. The BSA knows that your time is important and has begun to offer many of the trainings to be completed on line. The Glacier's Edge Council training committee also recognizes that people learn in different ways. We will continue to offer personal training sessions which give you the opportunity to ask questions and to learn from other leaders.
Please Register For Training Courses
All trainers are volunteers, just like you. Please be kind to your fellow scouters and register for training courses, even if there is no fee for attending the course. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Glacier's Edge Council requires pre-registration for training courses for the following reasons:
- To ensure sufficient staff and materials (handouts, etc.) are on hand for all participants
- To ensure the right amount of food is provided for all participants on all day and overnight courses
- To verify a sufficient level of participation to run the session
- To enable participants to be informed of any last minute changes or possible course cancellations
We are always looking for leaders to join the training team. If you wish to be involved in training at any level, please contact your District Executive, or the Council Training Chair- Luann Rece at (608) 873-1821 or by email at orchidscout@gmail.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As we near the end of the year and our Centennial celebrations I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your support and dedication to the Scouting program. Without your efforts the Scouting program couldn't exist.  I appreciate the extra time and resources that you give to help our scouts develop skills that will help them to be successful adults.  2011 is not the end of the celebration of 100 years but the beginning of the next and the most critical 100 years to the youth of our country.  With your help and commitment we will continue to make a difference, a positive impact in the lives of these young men and women. Thank you for all you do and have a blessed holiday season.
