POW WOW: Every boy deserves a trained leader. Have you taken your Youth Protection Training? Have you always wanted to be a Rangemaster but never fit it into your schedule? Want to take boys out on a water event but didn't know what the rules were? This type of training plus a lot of "How To" type of training is available at the upcoming 2011 All Scouter Pow Wow on January 15, 2011 at Deerfield High School. You can register online. It only takes a couple of minutes. Please this link out for additional information: http://www.glaciersedge.org/powow

Youth Protection required for ALL BSA Volunteers Effective June 1, 2010, Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers. This includes committee members, merit badge counselors and all other unit leaders. As Council Training Chair, I was surprised to see that our percentage of trained leaders was decreasing!
So please remember: Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
Be sure your Youth Protection training is current. If you have completed your training prior to April 1, 2009, please update your training to be sure the recharter process goes smoothly. To validate your training records, visit www.myscouting.org. If you do not have an account, please create one using your Member ID number. Click the tab on the left titled "Training Validation". You will be able to see all training that you have completed and the date you finished the training. If you have training records that do not appear, please submit copies of certificates or training cards to the council office to update your profile.
To ensure these policies are fully implemented, please take the following steps: If you have not taken Youth Protection Training within the past two years, please log on to MyScouting and take the training. Be sure to have your member ID number. The number can be found on your Boy Scouts of America membership card. If you do not know your member ID number, contact your unit leader or committee chairman. Your council can also assist you. If you have taken Youth Protection Training online but did not input your member ID number, please log back on to the Training section of MyScouting and input your member ID so the training will be linked with your records. If you have taken Youth Protection Training within the past two years but did not take the course online, log on to MyScouting to ensure your records are up to date, or contact your council and have them verify that your Youth Protection Training records are accurate. Finally, please share these important changes with other Scouters.
Youth Protection Training information is available at http://www.scouting.org/Training/YouthProtection.aspx
If you wish to have a Youth Protection training facilitator conduct a training for your unit, contact Luann Rece at orchidscout@gmail.com We would be glad to assist you with your needs.
Currently Glacier's Edge Council has only 37 percent of our leaders trained! We are a long way from 100%, please be sure to complete your training.
National Youth Leadership Training National Youth Leadership training will be held June 12-18, 2011 at Camp Indian Trails, Janesville, WI. This week long experience is open to both youth registered in Boy Scout troops and Venture Crews. The experience is co-ed. All youth should either be filling key youth leadership roles in their units or expecting to take up those roles. Youth must have the approval of their unit leaders to participate and have reached a certain maturity level.
Those eligible are: Boy Scouts age 13 (by Jan 1, 2011) through 17, have earned the rank of First Class, completed Troop Leadership Training (TLT) and attended a week long summer camp before participating in this week-long course. Venturers who have completed Crew Officer Orientation and Venturing Leadership Skills Course (or updated equivalent). A long term camping experience is strongly encouraged.
The focus of National Youth Leadership Training is to educate youth in the key skills they will need to succeed as leaders. Modeled on the best leadership practices in use today topics covered are: Communicating Well, Finding Your Vision, Setting Your Goals, Preparing Your Plans, Forming Your Team, Problem Solving, Team Development, Leading EDGE, Teaching EDGE, Resolving Conflicts, Making Ethical Decisions, Leading Yourself, Valuing People, Creating Your Future. Our aim is to take some of the mystery out of good leadership practice and give hands on guidance and practice. As a result of attending Ventures and Scouts should be prepared to build stronger unit programs. Plan now to reserve the date.
Please contact Verne Wright at: vwright3842@charter.net for additional information or if you have any questions regarding NYLT. |

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!! Scouts and Units from all around the country have done a tremendous job with their popcorn sale this year. In fact, the Chocolate Lovers Collection - the highest retail priced item in the program - has doubled in sales vs. 2009 and far surpassed our projections . Due to the surge in sales on this product, Trail's End is currently running behind on production of this one item. As a result, Chocolate Lovers product will not be available for pick up with the rest of your order the week of November 8th. In order to rectify the situation, here is what is being done: 1. The Chocolate Lovers portion of the order will be available to be picked up on December 3rd, 2010. 2. Pick up will be at the same location that you picked up the balance of your popcorn order. 3. Every unit that ordered the Chocolate Lovers Collection will receive a $50 Wal-Mart gift card for the inconvenience. We recommend using it towards your Scouting program. 4. Every Scout who sold the Chocolate Lovers Collection will be receiving an additional prize courtesy of Trail's End for the delay. 5. The Gift Card and Prizes will be shipped directly to the unit Popcorn Chair's home. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Please feel free to contact the council office should have any questions or me. Thank you. Lee Sideras Trail's End Popcorn lee.sideras@popweaver.com
