HBEN Newsletter 5th December 2011
|
|
| Great to see so many people enjoying a relaxed catch up at last week's Combined Business Networks' Christmas party! With all the antlers and santa hats, it really is starting to feel like Christmas. We saw great generosity in prize donation and fundraising efforts with the team at the Macquarie Business Centre - mbc- for the Hastings Women and Children's Refuge. We raised $2,000!
Don't forget to book in for our December breakfast with the team from Oxley Insurance Brokers, this Thursday. Dress up, network and enjoy great insights from Customer Service expert, Dr Ian Brooks. We're also working on plans for next year - keep the date for an inspirational 19 January breakfast and for the women in business amongst you, read on for details about the Women in Business Mentoring Program coming in 2012.
Finally, if you are looking for a great way to engage with other local businesses, we have just one 2012 Patron opportunity available. Why not join us in hosting one of our great monthly business networking breakfasts? Click here for more details or give me a call.
As this will be our final newsletter for 2012, I'd like to wish you a wonderful festive season with family and friends and look forward to seeing you in the new year!
Regards,
Liesa Davies

Council rates and funding
Now is the time to have your say on future rate levels. Council is considering a new application to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to secure long term rate funding that would deliver the infrastructure and particularly roadworks that the community has identified as priorities. If the application is not approved, Council's general rate revenue could be reduced by almost $2.5 million in July 2012. To make any application to IPART it is vital that community views on proposed options for a rate rise are considered. To have your say and read more about the rating options, their impact and the works program they will generate; the services at risk if $2.5 million is removed from the budget visit click here. Just by completing the survey you can be in the draw to win one of three IPad2s.

Top 10 businesses started in a garage
The humble garage isn't just a storage space. It can provide the ideal space to launch a new business, as last week's naming of iiNet founder Michael Malone as Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year demonstrates. As Malone told us last year, iiNet launched in his mother's garage, only moving due to the extraordinary amount of phone lines he needed installed to the premises. Read more...
