Magazine Drive Success; Up to $45k Made

The magazine drive was a success to the school. There was $45,000 contributed to the school funding and up to 2,000 magazine subscriptions sold.
The reason why we sell magazines instead of other things is because Oak Park High school (OPHD) and Oak Hills Elementary sell cookie dough and nuts.

MCMS Buzzes about 2012 Spelling Bee

Every year at Medea Creek, a school wide spelling bee is held. On Wednesday January 4, 2012, Ms. Stein judged the school Spelling Bee, with help from Ms. Lavene and Mr. Benioff. The first place winner was an 8th grade student named Angela Wang, and the second place winner was a 7th grade student named Stephanie Chang.

7th Graders Enlighten Viewers of China's History

 On Thursday, Jan. 26, Medea's 7th grade humanities students culminated their China studies with a museum-like gallery in the gym, showcasing their beautifully detailed work.
Table by table, elaborate three-panel boards displayed China's six themes of history ranging from geography to science and technology.

Our Trip to Catalina

Catalina is an island right off the coast of Southern California. Medea Creek's 7th grade took a three-day trip to Catalina. At Catalina some of the fun activities you get to do include high and low ropes, a squid dissection, kayaking, and even snorkeling!

8th Grader Ben Porat Astounds Audience with Geography facts

8th grader Ben Porat with his mother and Principal Benioff after winning the MCMS 2011 Geo Bee.

Pen Porat, 8th grade, won the 2011 MCMS Geography Bee on Jan. 18, 2012.
Ben and 34 other MCMS students competed for the top spot and a chance at future scholarship money from National Geographic.
In order to compete at the school-level Bee on Jan. 18, all 35 students had to win their classroom-level competitions in December 2011.

USC Trojans vs. UCLA Bruins: Who Runs LA?

The Trojans and Bruins game-every year this is what thousands of fans are waiting for; a chance to see two rivals go head to head. Cardinal and gold (USC) are number ten in the nation, and blue and gold (UCLA) are unranked, but both are competing to win. The last time the Bruins won was in 2008 and they are hoping to get another win on their record late in November this season. But the Trojans are ready to fight and add another win to their record against them.

UCLA vs. ASU

Are you a UCLA or Arizona State fan? If you are then read this article! It is about the UCLA-Arizona State football game that occurred on November 5th at the Rose Bowl.
Sun Devils quarterback Brock Osweiler completed 22 of his 38 passes for 264 yards, and threw 2 touchdowns. Running Back Cameron Marshall rushed 168 yards on 27 carries and ran a touchdown.

NFL Super Bowl XLVI Predictions Survey

Every year teams from the AFC (American Football Conference) and NFC (National Football Conference) meet in the Super Bowl for a final game and a shot at $78,000 and a Super Bowl.

Hoopin' it Up at Medea Creek

Basketball is everywhere, in Huntington Beach, in the San Gabriel Valley Invitational, at HAX (Hangar Athletic Club), and in the American Sports Center of Anaheim. In our school, there are multitudes of people playing basketball on each other's teams, and on their own.
Some well-known players around our school are Ryan Macke, Ian Sears, Ethan Alkoby, Noah Garfinkel, Chris Stone, and Daniel Glickstein. These players devote a lot of their time every day to play this fast-paced game.

Bullying: Stop the Harrasment!

Bullying is no laughing matter. "It has an emotional effect; it can affect people socially, and physically," Dr. Bayles says. Anybody can be bullied at anytime, that's why it's important to tell a trusted adult about your situation, they will be sure to help. You can even tell a MCMS counselor Dr. Melissa Bayles.

An Unforgettable Tribute; Oak Park High School Remembers 9/11

Sunday, September 11, 2011, marked the ten-year anniversary for 9/11. On Monday, September 12, Oak Park High School had a special tribute for this unforgettable terrorist attack.
The program started with the Pledge of Allegiance, lead by a Ventura County Sheriff. Next, was the opening remarks, done by Kevin Buchanan, the principal at OPHS. The first moment of silence followed, for those who lost their lives at Ground Zero.

Abduction Movie Review

Abduction directed by John Singleton, is an action-thriller movie starring Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins. This one hour and forty-five minute movie came out on September 23, 2011. In the box office worldwide, it made seventy-eight million dollars.
If you like Twilight, you will definitely love this film. In this movie, Nathan Harper (Taylor Lautner) and Karen Lowell (Lily Collins) are assigned to do a project together. Nathan finds his face on a missing persons website. He starts to question his "parents".
