Dear Parents,
As we continue to work to ensure the safety of our students and staff, we want to make you aware of several steps we have taken recently:
- We have added a text messaging option to our list of ways to communicate with our families should there be any weather delays or emergencies. You are now able to self-register and manage up to three email addresses and/or cell phone text message addresses, which will allow you to receive emergency information just minutes after we post it. These alerts come directly from the FlashAlert service, so you need to specifically subscribe to FlashAlert and create an account to access the service. Please click here to subscribe.
- We have contracted with a uniformed, off-duty CSPD officer to patrol around and between our campuses in a marked police cruiser every day during student release times. The addition of this officer comes in addition to an increase in the presence of CSPD on-duty patrol officers in our neighborhood throughout the school day.
- In response to parents who have requested ways to provide safety information to their children, we have partnered with KidPower Colorado on several safety education initiatives. Attached are talking points and safety strategies that parents can discuss with their children. While the information is aimed at parents whose children walk to and from school or between campuses, the ideas are applicable in a variety of situations and well worth discussing with all students.
- CMCA and KidPower will host a two-hour, adults-only session the evening of April 10 for CMCA parents interested in a more in-depth presentation about imparting safety and awareness skills to children. The session will run 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
- As a follow-up to the parents-only presentation on April 10, KidPower will offer three sessions of a two-hour evening class for CMCA 1st through 6th grade students and their parents on April 17, April 24, and May 2. At these classes, skills will be taught and practiced, with each session open to 30 students on a first come, first serve basis. The classes are provided at no cost and will run from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Look for more information about all these events in coming weeks.
Please know that we are grateful for your support and input and that safety remains our first priority.
Sincerely,
Colin Mullaney
