Attention All News Junkies
CMCA Junior Forensics' team has their very first Extemporaneous Speech student competing in a meet on December 10th. This student needs to prepare files with articles, facts and information on all 75 of the attached subjects. In competition, she will have three randomly selected topics of which she will choose one to speak on. She will then have 30 minutes to compose a 3 - 7 minute speech using the files as reference and resource materials. We need your help to create CMCA's Extemp files. To help, photocopy articles related to attached subjects from magazines, journals, newspapers or print news articles from the web (please note the source of the article must be included in the copy), donate magazines, journals, newspapers such as Time, Newsweek, Christian Science Monitor, The Economist, New York Times, WSJ. All donated materials can be dropped off at the Junior High building A at the Corona Campus. Thank you for your supporting this great opportunity. Questions: Call Bethany 359-6669
Grade Calculations for Junior High and High School Reminder: The way the grades are calculated for the year differs between the Junior High and High School.
Junior High students have their grades averaged separately each quarter. Each new quarter is a new grading period. At the end of each semester, students take an exam that covers the previous two quarters worth of work. At the end of the year, the four quarters and two exams are averaged for the year-long average. The year-long average determines course credit and student standing.
Year-long Junior High grades are calculated as follows: Quarter 1 = 20%
Quarter 2 = 20%
Semester 1 Exam = 10%
Quarter 3 = 20%
Quarter 4 = 20%
Semester 2 Exam = 10%
Total = 100%
High School students have grades averaged by semester. Their work throughout each semester is averaged with a semester exam. Grades given on the quarterly report card are an indication of progress to that point. Students, however, do not start fresh at the beginning of the next quarter. Course credit and student grade point average (GPA) are determined based on semester grades (not quarter or year-long grades).
High School grades are calculated as follows:
Semester = 77% Semester Exam = 23%
Total = 100%
