News this Week
Impact Aid As you may know, CMCA/Vanguard is financed by a combination of state, federal, and local revenues. The local revenues are mostly a result of taxes paid on residential and business property. Since all federal properties, including military installations, are tax exempt, the property on which many of our residents work is not taxed, which results in less revenue to support public education.
However, school districts may apply for additional federal funding to help mitigate some of this shortfall. The basis of the school district's application is the information which is collecting from the survey below. We are asking that all parents provide the information requested for each child in the home, regardless of where parents work or whether they are in the military or not. It is also important for each parent or guardian in the uniformed services to provide his or her name, rank, and branch of service.
Please return your card no later than October 7, 2011. If you need an additional copy, please contact your front desk secretary or click here.
Looking for CMCA/Vanguard Study-Buddies
The Vanguard School has been a top performing high school for many years and CMCA would like our help to begin a Study-Buddy program that will take place after school from 3:30 - 4:00 P.M. on the Wahsatch campus. There are no requirements other than wanting to help younger students with their homework and become their Study- Buddy. For students who are looking for a service project, this would be a good way to accumulate volunteer hours. At this time, only third and forth grade students with the recommendation of their teacher may participate in the Study Buddy program. For more information about this program, please contact Jill Custer or Amy Stephens.
Coat Drive Girl Scout Troops of CMCA will be collecting new or gently used coats of any size for "Coats for Colorado" between October 7-21. Click here for more information.
