Oh, what a night!

(Facebook Share)

Last Saturday, September 8, the Philippine Community of Southern New Jersey (PCSNJ) held its 26th induction and ball at the Riverside Aquarium in Camden, N.J. Attended by more than 200 guests and graced by the presence of Consul General Mario de Leon and his wife Eleanor together with Filipino Executive Council of Greater Philadelphia's president, Mrs. Hermie Aczon and husband Dr.Ferdie Aczon, the event was a pompous and jubilant occasion. It had the aura of a "town fiesta combined with the inauguration of a president of a country" The night was filled with fun and laughter.

The curtain was brought down when the association's incoming president, Mr. Senen Fontanilla, entered the ballroom waving with both hands to the crowd accompanied by his so-called four Secret Service Agents who pretended to be guarding him on both sides and from behind. A great comedic act indeed and a tough one to follow. He then proceeded to state that these 'secret service agents' were the same ones who were recently fired from their posts in South America for womanizing. Senen it seems has the capability not only of a great actor but has the flourish of a great speaker. His inaugural speech was centered on family values when he said " This association is a family. You and I are family and as such, we should love one another and be united together for the good of our community."

He ended his speech by reciting the Boy Scouts oath "On my honor, I will do my best, to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight." He added " so help me God"...a very touching inaugural address. In between intermissions, various acts were showcased.

To name a few, April Talangbayan did a dance and a song number. She surprised everyone with her sweet melodic voice. Santa Cruzan was presented and special dance numbers like zumba and new sets of line dancing were performed.. The program was a little bit long but it was a night to behold.

Mr. President Senen Fontanilla, you are set. Congratulations to you sir and to your officers and executive board. Oh by the way, PC Youths, you deserve our congratulations and best wishes on your induction and for your service to the community. We salute you. Carry on the torch! Keep up the good work.

Congratulations to Senen Fontanilla, the new President of PCSNJ. The event at the Camden Aquairum was a wonderful evening to meet up with friends. Consul General Mario de Leon gave the speech to a very excited audience.

Our multicultural plurality as a city will once again be celebrated by the AARP
this coming October 12 at the National Constitution Center.  It will be a big night of cultural exchange and celebration; filled with performances from the many participants invited into the event.
Our MUTYA Philippine Dance Company will be performing and we need to support them.  Get your tickets now. Contact us this early as tickets are limited. Mutya President Imelda Alpas is excited about the event.

Guests will be greeted by AARP volunteers and immediately immersed into various cultural settings from around the world. The evening provides cultural entertainers who perform the best of the arts from represented countries and an international sampling of cuisine provided by local vendors from the region.

In 2011, the event grew to its all time attendance with over 1,700 guests, all captured by regional media and internal AARP media.

This coming Sunday, our Council will have a general meeting at the Philippine Community Center at Stratford, NJ.  Be there earlier to "meet and greet" and maybe help out to prep the place. It is always nice to see one another in our meetings
. Again, I thank the PCSNJ for our venue.
I encourage all the Officers of our Executive Committee to plan ahead to be present at the Blessing Mass of Archbishop Chaput. He will bless our officers in a Special Mass at Our Lady of Hope Church, in North Philadelphia.  Everybody is ensouraged to be there.
Again maraming salamat sa inyong lahat and see you a the meeting. To all our Pinoy population in our area my very best regards to all of you!
