Chair's Message

Greetings Members:

Summer is upon us and this is my last article as Chair of the Board. This has been a very productive year at the Ybor City Chamber. I am very proud of what we have accomplished in 2011/2012. We have had an outstanding year across the board in Marketing, Events and Membership.

One of my goals was to improve promotion of both the Chamber and the Community it serves. Marc Hamburg and the Marketing Committee were able to go-live with a new "state of the art" website; a long-term goal for many of us. Tampa Digital did a wonderful job designing and developing a site that features and promotes our special events as well as our diverse membership. In addition, the Committee oversaw the design and execution of our new logo which included: a comprehensive stationary package, a closinea lapel pin and embroidered camp shirts.

The Chamber's special events reached a new level this year, starting with an outstanding Gala where the More' family of La Segunda Central Bakery was awarded the Adela & Cesar Gonzmart Award. Our second Ybor Oktoberfest Pub Crawl was a total sell-out before the event even started - thanks to Wes and the Oktoberfest Committee. After seeking an outside production company for Guavaween 2011, the Chamber brought it in-house with the help of AEG Live. The event came-off without a hitch and the motorized-parade was reintroduced. The costume contest had winners from across the state and the country.

David, Gassen and the Fiesta Day Committee produced the biggest daytime event we have had in years with an attendance of over 20,000, and a first time Signature Sponsorship from Florida Blue. Most of the Board members were engaged as volunteers, vendors or VIPs - it was a success by all standards. Finally, we held our 6th Annual Ybor Aficionado Days with transportation "Powered by Chevy," for the second year in a row. People are still telling me how much they enjoyed this upscale Ybor event!

Last but not least, we have had a strong year in membership. Vice Chair for Membership, Richard Chad and his Committee have overseen a modest growth in general members as well as steady expansion of our tiered membership program. We forget sometimes that the Membership Division also oversees ten Luncheons, five PM Events, two Expos and a Holiday Party. We are often complimented on the quality of our Luncheon Speakers, which surpasses chambers three times our size.

Thank you all for your outstanding support- Andrea White

P.S. Don't forget to register your team for the Chamber's up-coming Golf Tournament!
