Chair's Message
Greetings Members:
It looks like spring has sprung. I just got back from some much needed R & R in Mexico. No, I wasn't anywhere near the earth quake, but thanks for asking. I am nearing the end of my year as Chair of the Ybor City Chamber, but I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet. It has been a very busy and productive year, only wish I had more time.
As you know, this is Festival Season for the Historic District. At the end of February, we hosted the largest daytime crowd we have had in years at our 65th Annual Fiesta Day. The entertainment was top notch and we had the largest number of vendors since the Chamber took back management of the event three years ago. Having Florida Blue and BB&T Bank head-up at the top of our sponsors was a first of a kind achievement. And, we advertized on cable television (Bright House Networks, of course) for the first time. Tom tells me that, and the weather, brought out some 20,000 plus visitors from around the region.
We are not done yet. Our Chair-elect, Andrea Gonzmart and her Committee are ready for our 6th Annual Ybor Aficionado Days. This event was founded by my predecessor Arturo Fuente, Jr. and has become our most up-scale signature event. The two-day "food fest" features a Tapas Trail on Saturday followed by an After Party/Smoker. On Sunday the Columbia Restaurant hosts a Traditional Spanish Brunch featuring Jazz by national recording artist Les Sabler. GM provides chauffer driven transportation on the trail and an opportunity to test drive one of the fleet if you like - I drove the brand new Camero last year. Tom, our President, tells me we may even have a Corvette this year. Please consider joining us for this most special of special events on April 14th and 15th.
If you are a golfer, the new Ybor Chamber "traveling trophy" is at stake. Won last year by Ybor's Radiant Group, the trophy is up-for-grabs at the Chamber's Annual Golf Tournament to be held at the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club on Monday, May 21st. And, while this event officially occurs after my term is over - I will always be a "Past-chair" of the Ybor City Chamber.
Until next time, Andrea White
