Message from the Chair Greetings fellow members: I can't believe how fast the summer has gone by. I hope you managed to get a break - I was lucky enough to squeeze-in a cruise between hurricanes. With Labor Day behind us, we are headed into an exciting fall season at the Ybor City Chamber. I am looking forward to our next Membership Luncheon - Tuesday, September 13th, 11:45 at the Columbia Restaurant. Tim Roberts, founder and Chairman of the Board of Savtira, Ybor's new cloud-based, e-commerce company will be presenting on the rapid growth of his firm. Savtira plans to add 265 employees in the next 18 months. The September Luncheon is sponsored by Innovaro, Ybor City's world-class "innovation advisor." Don't forget to register on-line when you receive your Luncheon notice to get your "advanced registration" discount. If you have not sent in your RSVP for the Chamber's Gala and Gonzmart Award, do it now. We want a full-house to celebrate the contribution of the La Segunda Central Bakery's More' Family to Ybor's unique "food culture." Can you imagine La Tropicana, Carmine's or the Columbia without Cuban bread or a great Cuban sandwich? I cannot! Sandra, Elliot and the Chamber's Gala Committee have put together a wonderful evening of entertainment, food and festivities that will rival last year's event, honoring the Fuente cigar family. Call Events Coordinator, Anna Ramos at 248.3712 x22 or e-mail her for information at aramos@ybor.org. Wes Miller, Peter Blessin and our OktoberFest Committee have recruited 18 venues for this year's Pub Crawl. This fun event, only in its second year, appeals to our younger patrons and features our incredible array of member pubs and patio bars. Come join us for OktoberFest Ybor style Saturday, October 1st. The 2nd Annual Ybor OktoberFest Pub Crawl is sponsored by Centro Ybor, Beck's Beer and Yellow Cab of Tampa. Media Sponsor is Creative Loafing. Check out www.ybor.org for more details. Did you hear that the motorized-parade is back for Guavaween 2011? Our President, Tom Keating, sent out "an open letter" to Tampa's krewes inviting them to join us for the Guavaween Parade the evening of October 29, 2011. Tom tells me the applications are already beginning to come in. Fall is just around the corner and that means that cool weather isn't far away. Fall and spring are the best times of the year to catch one of Ybor's great special events. Until Next Month, Andrea White

Ybor Chamber Member Spotlight
Maybe one of Tampa's best kept secrets is The American Victory Ship, one of only four fully-operational WWII ships in the country and located directly behind the Florida Aquarium. Commissioned in 1945, The American Victory Ship is 455 feet long with a 62 foot beam, capable of a maximum speed of 17 knots. The American Victory Ship is a world-class, shipboard, maritime museum dedicated to honoring the men and women who built, protected and provided service, worldwide, through the American Merchant Fleet since 1795.
The American Victory Ship Mariners Memorial Museum is open for tours Sundays and Mondays from noon to 5:00 pm and Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Admission is free for members, $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 65+, $8 for veterans, $5 for children 4-12, and free for children 3 and under. Membership information can be obtained at www.americanvictory.org
The American Victory Ship ventures out twice a year on their critically-acclaimed "Relive History Cruises." However, before she can sail again, the ship must enter dry dock per orders of the U.S. Coast Guard. As a result, The American Victory Ship is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise funds to cover the cost of dry dock. You can contribute to the campaign by clicking on the Donate button on their website.
Tour The American Victory Ship and relive history!
