La Segunda Central's Moré Family Selected for
Ybor City Chamber's Gonzmart Award
(Tampa, FL) The Ybor City Chamber of Commerce will present the Adela & Cesar Gonzmart Award to the Moré Family at its 46th Annual Gala to be held at the Columbia Restaurant Saturday, September 17th at 6:30 PM. Owners and operators of Ybor City's famed La Segunda Central Bakery since 1915, the Moré family will receive the community's highest honor at the Chamber's Annual Gala.
The Moré Family has deep roots in Ybor City. Juan Moré, the family's patriarch, established the family's first bakery in Ybor just after the turn of the 20th century. Today, Anthony Albert and his 4th generation son, Anthony Copeland, operate the family's business at 2512 N. 15 Street.
"The Moré Family is being recognized for its four generations of service to the restaurant industry and the Ybor community," stated Tom Keating, President & CEO of the Ybor City Chamber. "La Segunda Central is truly a cornerstone of Tampa's "food culture" with their signature Cuban bread. Tampa would not be Tampa without our unique Cuban Sandwich."
The award is named after Adela & Cesar Gonzmart, the third generation of Ybor's Gonzmart family who helped build the Columbia into Florida's oldest and the world's largest Spanish restaurant. This annual award recognizes an individual, family or corporation who distinguishes themselves through unique achievements to promote the cultural preservation and commercial revitalization of the Ybor Community.
The Ybor City Chamber's Annual Gala is the traditional beginning of the Latin social season. Ybor City is the source of Tampa's Latin flavor and one of only two National Historic Landmark Districts in Florida.
