August 29, 2010
Leading Southern Highlands winery Cuttaway Hill took out a trophy, gold medal and two bronze medals in the 2010 NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show this week. Topping the list is the new release Cuttaway Hill 2010 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc which was awarded a gold medal and also the trophy for the best Semillon Sauvignon Blanc in show. The Cuttaway Hill 2010 Sauvignon Blanc and its traditional method Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir were also awarded bronze medals. Mark Bourne of Cuttaway Hill commented that "It was encouraging to see a young wine score so highly when it still has plenty of development to come in the bottle" Ironically Cuttaway Hill is the only Southern Highlands vineyard to grow the noble Semillon variety and produce a traditional Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend from the cool climate Southern Highlands wine region. Mark Bourne said " The classic cool climate varieties and wines scored very strongly and it is confirmation that the Southern Highlands wine regions strengths lie with with these varieties".
