As winter starts to bite the good news keeps rolling in with the same frequency as the winds in the Southern Highlands. The much awaited James Halliday annual Australian wine ratings have been published this month (some big Cuttaway scores in this issue) along with the new 2010 vintage releases and much much more, so it always time to celebrate at Cuttaway Hill.
James Halliday Annual Australian Wine Companion
CuttawayJames Halliday Hill has again been highly recognised by Australia's most well know wine critic and judge, James Halliday.
Halliday reviewed four Cuttaway Hill wines in his 2011 Annual Australian Wine Companion, with three wines scoring over 90pts/100 and two wines being highlighted as very good value for money wines.
The Cuttaway Hill Chardonnay topped the list with a stunning 93/100 followed by the Sauvignon Blanc at 92/100 and the always popular Pinot Gris was given a 91/100.

Cuttaway Hill 2008 Chardonnay - Bright colour; the bouquet is starting to build some bottle developed complexity, the palate bringing grapefruit and white peach flavours to the fore, oak merely a whisper. Rating 93pts/100 *good value for money wine

Cuttaway Hill 2009 Sauvignon Blanc- A zesty, lively wine on bouquet and palate alike, the flavours ranging through herb, citrus and gooseberry, the finish bright and crisp. Rating 92pts/100 *good value for money wine

Cuttaway Hill 2009 Pinot Gris - Spice, pear and fig aromas; genuine gris style, rich and mouthfilling, Alsace-like. Rating 91pts/100

Wine Review Of The Month
Cuttaway SSB bottle shot
This months wine review comes from Gary Walsh of the The Wine Front website, a fiercely independent wine review website that is always good for an honest opinion and comment.

Cuttaway Hill 2010 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Southern Highlands of NSW seem to do these styles pretty well. Bright and juicy - a mix of pineapple and citrus along with some grassy flavours. Good balance - crisp acidity mingles with a little sweetness to good effect. Clean finish of good length. Nice wine. 90pts/100

Wine Of The Month
sparkling white bottleBecause we are in a celebratory mood with all the rave reviews and scores this month, why not review a sparkling example of Cuttaway Hill wine, the Laurence Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir.
Named in honour of the owner and founder of Cuttaway Hill, Laurence O'Neil, it is a traditional bottle fermented sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir blend.
The first sparkling wine vintage was in 2005 and now we have been making sparkling wine for five vintages, with growing critical acclaim, we have developed our own house style which has culminated in the release this year, of our first non-vintage blend labelled Cuvee Prestige Brut.
Made in a aperitif style the wine suits canapes and natural oysters. With a fine bead from the traditional method single fermentation it has a toasted bread aroma and a palate driven by the Chardonnay resulting in fine citrus characters on the palate. A very fine and elegant finish creates a sparkling wine to celebrate any occasion.
The Laurence Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir can ordered online and delivered direct to your door within days.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH comes from madame Bollinger of the famous Champagne house, when asked when is the best time drink champagne;

I drink champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty.
