During these cold winter months there is only one important job, PRUNING. The mention of the word sends groans across the team!! Pruning is definitely the longest and sometimes the most laborious job every year.
Despite a quick machine prune, to remove the top half of the prunings, every vine has to be individually attended to by someone each year. Winter pruning is the time when we set the potential crop for next year and every variety and every block has its individual quirks. While some think it is purely a manual job we find it requires a lot of quick decisions and accurate work to obtain the best quality crop every year.
So every time you enjoy a glass Cuttaway Hill wine, spare a thought for the tireless crew who spend the cold wet and windy days every winter getting every vine exactly right so we all can enjoy the fruits of their labour..
