I was connected to Healthy Babies Project when I became pregnant with my son. I was scared before my first visit, but the staff here made me feel very comfortable. They helped me find a stable home for me and my child and also provided one-on-one counseling. I loved coming to HBP and feeling loved.

Once my pregnancy progressed, I was introduced to the Teen Parent Empowerment Program (TPEP) which helps pregnant teens (keep reading ...)

TPEP May 2011: Life Skills and Confident Parenting

In May, TPEP continued life skills classes and concluded the Confident Parent component.

Baby Care Basics 101 and Home Safety
Teens were given instruction on how to properly care for an infant and making your home a safe environment for infants and toddler to play.
Banking and Credit with Bank on DC
Teens learned the benefits of saving, budgeting, and establishing good credit habits for short- and long-term financial health, including a frank discussion about credit. (Read more ...)

HBP Moms "Showered" with Special Gifts from MS Squared

mom nursing babySpecial thanks to MS Squared Parents' Group who, through a grant from Pampers, "showered" our moms with gifts they needed for their babies.  Gifts included cases of Pampers and wipes, a car seat, a stroller, diaper bag, clothing, books, and more!

Shower winner Diamonique White said, "I was so happy to be the winner; I got everything I needed for the baby!"  Diamonique's mother said "I stayed up several nights worrying about how I was going to be able to afford things for my new grandbaby, but God surely answered my prayers."

Healthy Babies Project is proud to be the recipient of this very generous donation. We're deeply grateful to Tavia Cummings, members of the MS Squared Parent's Group, and their children for thinking of us in such a magnanimous way.
Coming Up in June at TPEP ...

Staff from the Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative are leading the newest Developing Dads class for our teen fathers and men who participated in Confident Parenting. The men meet once per week and discuss dating, finances, and what it means to be a father.  The Edgewood/Brookland Collaborative provides meals for the fathers who come to the weekly sessions.

TPEP to the Finish Line!
TPEP will have its final classes for the spring season on June 13 and 20 and will recess until the "Summer Sizzler" session kick-off on July 11.  The "Summer Sizzler" series includes city-wide experiences such as museum visits, cooking projects and other hands-on activities which will keep the teens engaged during the month of July.  TPEP Graduation is scheduled for August, when we will invite some of our recent graduates to provide mini-keynote messages.

TPEP 2011 Graduates to Participate in Camping Experience
In preparation for the annual camping trip at the end of TPEP, teen participants will be running a store at HBP on Wednesdays, selling snacks, smoothies, and hot dogs to raise money to offset their camp fees. You're invited to stop by!

If you'd like to sponsor a teen for camp, please consider a donation of $300 which will cover one teen's  transportation and boarding fees for the week.  Make checks payable to Healthy Babies Project, noting "TPEP Camp" on the Memo line. Thank you in advance.

Give to HBP and Save Lives

For 20 years, HBP has connected high-risk, underserved pregnant D.C. women and families to health babies in diaperscare, social services, and educational opportunities. Thousands of HBP babies have been born alive and healthy. But recent city budget cuts have slashed HBP funding. We need your help to continue saving and transforming D.C. lives. Give here.

You don't have to see them to help.

Gifts to Healthy Babies Project, Inc. are tax-deductible. Your support means a true chance for D.C. teenagers and women to have productive lives. Giving online is safe and secure. Thank you for caring and giving!
