D.C. Council Honors Healthy Babies Project

On April 5, 2011, the  Council of the District of Columbia honored Healthy Babies Project in a special ceremony during Child Abuse Prevention Month.

2011 DC Council Resolution
D.C. Councilmember Harry Thomas and HBP Executive Director Regine Elie
The Council passed the District of Columbia Child Abuse Recgonition Resultion of 2011 stating, "Whereas all children deserve to be protected and free from physical and emotional harm, the District of Columbia acknowledges and honors Healthy Babies Project for demonstrating a commitment to providing services and support for victims of child abuse and neglect, as well as their families - and for providing educational and training resources for the community."

" 'No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child,' " said HBP Executive Director Regine Elie, quoting Abraham Lincoln in her remarks. "For more than twenty years, Healthy Babies Project has been standing tall. We work hard to ensure that every child born in the District of Columbia is born healthy and safe."

"These babies are still here. These mothers are still here," said D.C. Councilmember Harry Thomas. "Let's save the safety nets - organizations like Healthy Babies Project."

Twelve other agencies also received recognition along with Healthy Babies Project. HBP extends personal thanks to Councilmember Harry Thomas for his continued support of our work and special appreciation to Councilmember Jim Graham for proposing the resolution. (View story on our website.)

TPEP March 2011: Parenting, Life Skills, and Service

lunch with homelessDuring March, Teen Parent Empowerment Program (TPEP) workshops focused on parenting and developing life skills.

TPEP participants gave back to the community by volunteering to feed over 200 homeless men, women and children at the Shiloh Baptist Church Feed the Homeless event.  "It's a way for the girls to build character, admiration, responsibility and an understanding of other people's needs," said TPEP Coordinator Kahlil Kuykendall. "It means a lot to share a little time and effort without expecting tangible rewards in return." (Read more ...)

Give to HBP and Save Lives

For 20 years, HBP has connected high-risk, underserved pregnant D.C. women and families to health babies in diaperscare, social services, and educational opportunities. Thousands of HBP babies have been born alive and healthy. But recent city budget cuts have slashed HBP funding. We need your help to continue saving and transforming D.C. lives. Give here.

You don't have to see them to help.

Gifts to Healthy Babies Project, Inc. are tax-deductible. Your support means a true chance for D.C. teenagers and women to have productive lives. Giving online is safe and secure. Thank you for caring and giving!
