Southport, CT - January 6, 2012 - Mary Claire Kiernan, Club 420 sailor from Hinsdale, IL, has been announced as the winner of Clever Pig's "Best Sailing Web Page" semi-annual contest. Mary Claire's web page was selected from more than 180 pages that were created by sailors using the site. The winners of the contest receive a $500 grant toward their future sailing campaign expenses and join the Clever Pig Sailing Team for one year. Past winners of the contest are Team Nilsen and Nichole Rider.

To create her website Mary Claire used one of the new templates that were recently added to the Clever Pig website. She was recognized for creating an attractive, up-to-date web page that includes many news articles and photo galleries. One of the key factors in having your own website is to keep your audience - friends and family, fellow sailors, yacht clubs, sponsors - engaged and updated on your progress.

Mary Claire, who sails out of Lake Beulah YC, WI and Chicago YC, IL, is thrilled to receive this Clever Pig award from the Southport Sailing Foundation: "It's an honor to win the web page contest and be the newest member of the Clever Pig Sailing Team! My crew Kelly and I are very excited for the 2012 C420 season! The webpage is another avenue for us to share our enthusiasm for sailing."

We asked Mary Claire to tell us about her life and sailing: "I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. I was enrolled in the KinderPram junior sailing program at Lake Beulah Yacht Club when I was six. This was my first experience with the sport of sailing. From prams, I progressed into racing Optis and X-boats competitively in the Midwest. In the past four years, I have raced C-scows, MC-scows, FJs, Laser Radials, High School 420s, and Club 420s competitively around the country."

Regarding her campaign goals, Mary Claire is very clear and determined: "In 2012, my main focus is high school sailing and the Club 420. I'm a Junior in high school and Captain of the Hinsdale Central Sailing Team. My goal for this year is to attend all the major Club 420 events in the summer of 2012. My future goal is to prepare myself for a successful college sailing career."

Mary Claire recently competed with her crew Kelly at the Orange Bowl Regatta, as she recounts on her blog "We just wrapped up Orange Bowl! Kelly and I had a great time and learned so much. Reflecting after the regatta, I speak for both Kelly and I when I say we are happy with our debut regatta but not satisfied. Hopefully we can take what we learned in Miami over the past 2 weeks to Midwinters in Jensen Beach, FL, and improve even more!"

Well-said and fair sailing to Mary Claire and Kelly!

More than 180 personal web pages have been produced by sailors on Most of these micro websites contain campaign summaries, sailing resumes, blog entries, photo galleries, calendars, news, articles, videos, sponsors and links. A campaign website is a great way to promote a team and inform supporters and sponsors about the team's recent accomplishments and future plans. Because setting up a website can be a costly and time-consuming operation, Clever Pig offers this service for free through the support of the Southport Sailing Foundation.
