Greetings!
Do your eyes glaze over when you read a headline involving Syria, Iraq, Israel or Egypt? The Middle East conflict, although miles away, is closely connected to us as believers. Part of protecting the borders of our own heart involves understanding God's heart towards His chosen people, Israel. Netted out, God cares about Israel. And God cares whether others care about Israel. "And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curse you; and in you all family of the earth shall be blessed." Genesis 12:3
While our country's relationship with Israel deteriorates, we are encouraged to remember God's concern for His beloved. God watches over His Word so as to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12). Part of that watch is a special eye He has on His people, the Israelites, (Psalm 121:4), promising to preserve a Jewish remnant (Hosea 2:23). It is for just a little while that Israel rejects Christ (Matthew 21:42) so as to permit the Gentiles opportunity to come to know the Messiah. Paul reminds us, however, that it is not us who support the root, but the root supports us (Romans 11:18)!
Jesus was a Jew, loves His Jewish children (Matthew 23:37) and will preserve His Jewish nation. To forget so great a people group, persecuted yet prevailing, is to, in a sense, lose sight of our biblical heritage (our roots) and to forget God's future promises (His remnant).
Easter! What a glorious time to add a segment to the newsletter that will help you connect to a nation, without whom we as Gentiles would not have hope (Ephesians 2:12-13)! The next 8 months we hope to challenge you to pay closer attention to God's Beloved, Israel.
