Greetings!
Do you ever feel like you're between a rock and a hard place, trapped in a circumstance with nowhere to move? You are not alone. The Israelites experienced a similar pinch upon their exodus from Egypt. With a wall of water in front of them, Pharoah's army behind and upward-reaching cliffs on either side, their situation looked dim. They were "walled in", as it were, on all sides.
Many years ago, I was very sick. One day my doctor informed me he could no longer provide me with special IV treatment due to the severe reactions it yielded in my body. That medication was the only thing keeping me from slipping into a coma. I was walled in.
Upon receiving this news, I said, "Well God, I'm sure between a rock and a hard place now." Although not audible, I heard the Lord respond, "What a better place to be?" I didn't understand. "The Rock, Cheryl...think about the Rock." Then nothing. I was confused by His words and concerned by His silence.
And then, it hit me: I was trying to find a solution to my dire circumstances in my own feeble strength. God redirected my attention to the heavens from which His mighty strength comes and helped me to see I could take shelter in the cleft of the rock!
The receipt of His strength is readily available but contingent upon our asking. We must choose to call upon Him (notice verse three in the Bible study today) in order to open the way for His strength to come through on our behalf. While it is a simple, almost effortless movement on our part to request His help, often our internal inertia keeps us from doing that which would bring the greatest and highest good in a situation. Our strength used to try to fix, amend, come up with solutions, or find a way out, can become a debilitating weakness. But ironically, the times we feel most insecure, can be the times we are most secure - if we will invite God into our tight spot.
Are you between a rock and a hard place? If so, call upon Him, know His protection and strength, watch His glory pass by, and I am confident you will have grounds to afterward declare to the nations Who your God is.
Looking to Him with you, Cheryl and Team
