Greetings!
Rima Fine Art, Front | Summer is well under way here in Scottsdale, and those of us who bask in the warmth are still doing so. (Come August, we may well be singing a different tune!) Wherever this letter finds you, we hope you are enjoying your summer "dog days".... |

Rima Fine Art Turns 10!
Rima Fine Art celebrates it's 10th birthday this month. There is much to be said for tenacity, but we think the wisdom to be gained in successfully "hanging tough" through good times and challenging ones alike is precious. Here's hoping the wisdom will serve us--now AND long after times have gotten easier. And we're well on the way. We love the new location (just one block east and across the street). We have a new High Definition virtual tour of the gallery. And as always, the gallery is "choc full" of beautiful artworks. Rima Fine Art Welcomes You! | |

What About Those "Investments of Passion"?
Pierre Auguste Renoir's original sketch "Buste de Jeune Fille" | When economic cycles turn and the boom times pass, we all step back (willingly or not) and reassess. Today we have unprecedented volatility in equity and commodity markets, the real estate bubble has burst, and tepid business activity hurts all around. So where ARE the good investment choices these days? Many aspects factor in: risk tolerance, desire for diversification, and liquidity are predominate. You may have other guiding parameters. We are frequently asked about the use of art as an asset class. There is no short answer; it is a highly personal decision. But for the right situation, fine art CAN play a role. The respected financial "CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Journal" has just released it's new issue with a cover story on the topic: CFA Institute May/June 2010. Want to know more? These resources--which offer various perspectives-- can get you started: Mei Moses Fine Art Index; Maastritch Art Market News -- See "The International Art Market 2007-2009, Trends in the Art Trade during Global Recession"; portfolio.com: "The Art of Investing in Art"; and Slate.com: "Is Art a Good Investment?" |

The Birds are Here!
Earlier this month we welcomed master carver Donald Templeton into the gallery. Don brings something different to us in his wonderful wild bird carvings. (Shown: "Whirly", a
ruby-throated hummingbird) Each bird is planned around a
particular species in a
purposeful pose and attitude. Don works in Tupelo wood, creating detailed feathering with carving knives,
miniature rotary tools and burning techniques. Branches and
leaves are of brass rods or tubes and are shaped and
soldered together. Bark and buds are molded from epoxy and
sculpted with dental tools. Acrylic paints are applied through
numerous washes to obtain natural coloration.
Don's carvings are via
inspiration of his real life experiences, pictures, and photos; not
commercial patterns or study casts. Miss the Arizona hummers while you're gone? Call us and we'll ship little Whirly to YOU!
