Greetings!
Welcome to the June edition of the BLC Newsletter.
This month's meeting is lure making. We will be building the popular double 10 bucktails. In the past we have done silicone skirts but this year it will be flashabou. There will be several color combinations already tied up to choose from. Also we'll discuss making your own soft plastics and leaders. We hope to see you at the Waterfall! ____________________________________________________ Youth Event Our next upcoming youth event is the Youth Outdoor Expo on Saturday, June 12th at the Lakeshore Conservation Club right across from Ski Gull. Another free event that includes a fishing station, bird house builder trapping and duck/goose call demos. Kids will also have the opportunity to shoot shotguns, bows, muzzleloaders and .22 rifles. Food is included along with plenty of prizes to be won. This is a great event for the kids! Click here for more info. ____________________________________________________
A Farewell to a Good Friend of the BLC Tim Brastrup, our area fisheries manager, is calling it a career! His last day is June 11th and he'll be moving back home to the Iron Range. Tim has been a good friend of the BLC since it reformed back in 2003. Not everything has gone in a way we would have liked but rest assured Tim has done his best to help us reach our goals. Even if it meant sticking his neck out on the chopping block. Thanks Tim for your hard work and dedication in making the Brainerd Lakes area fisheries the best they can be! Great Job and enjoy the retirement! ____________________________________________________ Things are coming along nicely. A menu is in the works for the 3 days of the Hamm and we're just waiting for an estimated per person cost so we can make adjustments. We are also working on ideas to keep the fun flowing throughout the week and not just during the Hamm. A website will be up very soon with all kinds of info about the Hamm. If your not fishing the Hamm cause you were unable to but wish you were...don't worry. There will be daily updates to the site during the Hamm so you'll know which Chapter's team is in the lead or who's got the biggest muskie each day. The July's issue of MUSKIE magazine will have an article and more info on the Gil Hamm. ____________________________________________________ The Time is Finally Here! Muskie opener is just a few short days or hours, depends on how excited you are, away! Good luck everyone and be safe on the water. Remember to fill out a release form with your release and get it to Dusty within 30 days of the catch. With that being said our first round of the Muskie Hunter of the Year is the June Clash. Sunday June 27th on Alexander and Shamineau. Fishing times are 6am - 3pm. We will have a potluck lunch afterwards at the west landing. ____________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ Bemidji - Cass Lake Chapter Tournament
