Greetings!
Welcome to the April edition of the BLC Newsletter.
At this month's meeting we have a special guest speaker. Muskie writer/educator Rob Kimm. Rob writes articles for many of our favorite magazines and newspapers including The Outdoor News, The Next Bite, In-Fisherman, MUSKIE and of course Esox Angler which he was the senior editor. Rob will be discussing early season muskie tactics and Upper Red Lake northern pike. Do not miss this information filled speaker! ____________________________________________________
We will also discuss our Spring Crappie Outing this April. Currently we are looking at getting together on Saturday April the 24th. Either on the Gull Lake Chain or Pelican. Whatever the majority would like to do we will lock it in. It'll be a good time to get the boats in the water and do a little fishing.
We'll make the official annoncement on the BLC website and at the meeting the info on the Crappie Outing.

Alexander DNR Muskie Netting Survey
The muskie nets are in the water. The DNR will be pulling nets daily for the next week and a half. They are looking for 1 person a day in the morning 8:30am - ?? to help pulling muskie nets. If you are interested please contact Greg Kvale at 232-0328 to see if there's still available dates to help.
A reminder that this is not a sight seeing day, even though you'll see a bunch of muskies, it's a few hours of work pulling big nets and measuring muskies. It is fun but you do work up a sweat.

Gil Hamm Attendees
All those that are signed up to fish the Gil Hamm, due to budget cuts, we will be asking that each person pay $5 to cover the entry fee.
If you are still interested in fishing the Hamm but are not signed up yet, please let me know ASAP as we will be locking in teams and entry fees by May. We need to get a head count so we can start preparations for food totals.

Stocking Proposal Support Letters
The BLC, along with the MMA, will be sending out letters to people to educate and look for their support for the 5 lake stocking proposal.
One of the biggest concerns out there that is causing opposition is the misconception that northern spearing will be banned on these lakes. It can't be stressed enough to the public and spearers that northern spearing will NOT be banned. The DNR stated clearly that they have no intention what so ever to ban spearing! The spearing bans that are in place now were set some 20 years ago and the mind set of the DNR on spearing bans have changed since then. |
