School Involvement: Life Lessons SPRING AWAKENING DISCUSSIONS:
|

Greene Room Productions, a local 501c3 functioning out of the Monson/Palmer area is launching its spring production, a rock musical called, "Spring Awakening" by Duncan Sheik and Steven Satar at the Academy of Music in Northampton MA May 4-5 & 11-12, 2012. "Spring Awakening", a winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with poignancy and passion. It is a landmark musical that is an electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality and rock & roll.
Greene Room Productions, a theatre company with a extensive ed outreach program is currently making efforts to create school & educational institution partnerships to help further theatre and live arts education. "Spring Awakening", the most current and unique project of GRP, is a perfect example of how schools can get involved with GRP to offer students experiential, innovative learning programs. GRP with the interest of local schools hopes to offer a weekday matinee performance of "Spring Awakening" for high school and college Students. GRP offers schools a study guide complete with teacher lessons, student activities, at-home projects, and reproducibles in the areas of history, language arts, life skills, behavioral studies, and the arts. Students can gain an in-depth learning experience of difficult subject matter that can start in the classroom and end with the live experience of the theatre production or vice versa. Some of the themes that are covered are reporting child abuse, exploring women's rights, developing support skills for people in need, the skill of sharing and supporting others, the importance of plain talk in understanding teen sexuality, teen depression, etc. Because the show is about a group of students as they navigate teenage self-discovery and coming of age and anxiety, "Spring Awakening" provides an accessibility to teens and adults to discuss difficult topics. If you would like to have your child and/or school involved in this unique program, please pass this information along to your school principal or the appropriate teachers. Greene Room Productions is dedicated to producing quality cultural and educational opportunities for children and adults. GRP; Theatre for the Next Generation!
