2012 Hawaii Tourism Conference
Register today for the eighth annual Hawaii Tourism Conference to be held on August 23-24 at the Hawaii Convention Center. This year's theme, E Ku i ka Moku: Together We Will Succeed, focuses on building the momentum of the tourism market recovery in Hawaii. The two-day event featuring local and national visitor industry experts will provide insight on tourism issues and trends. Topics this year include updates on airlines, hotels, the cruise industry, festivals and events best practices, new media and cultural training. In addition, the HTA will provide industry updates along with the 2013 marketing plans by its global marketing partners. The first day will also include the HTA Tourism Legacy Awards Luncheon which recognizes businesses or individuals within the industry and community who have helped to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and feature a unique marketplace highlighting HTA's programs and community partners. The first day will then close with an Aloha Reception. For more information on the conference and to register, click here.

New Airlift to the Hawaiian Islands
Hawaii's tourism economy has attracted additional airlift to meet the growing travel demand to the Hawaiian Islands as the result of strong visitor arrivals and spending.

The HTA, through its access program, will continue to actively work to develop and maintain airlift to the Hawaiian Islands to meet demand. Airlift to Hawaii this year is in sync with HTA's projected growth in airline seat capacity. HTA anticipates this growth will contribute to a strong 2012 winter season for Hawaii's visitor industry, helping to sustain job growth in our economy.

Aloha Festivals Celebrates 66 Years of Cultural Tradition  2011 Aloha Festival Court
The HTA, through its Native Hawaiian Festivals Program, is pleased to announce that the 66th annual Aloha Festivals will kick off on Friday, August 31 and run through September 28. The festivities celebrate and share the history and traditions of Hawaii and the unique spirit of aloha with both kamaaina (local residents) and malihini (visitors). This year's theme is Hoonui Ike, meaning "to increase knowledge, enrich," through formal education, one-on-one mentoring, personal quests or other means.

HTA recognizes the use of the 'okina ['] or glottal stop, one of the eight consonants of the (modern) Hawaiian language; and the kahakō[ā] or macron (e.g., in place names of  Hawai'i such as Lāna'i).  However, HTA respects the individual use of these markings for names of organizations and businesses.  Due to technological limitations, this current communication may not include all Hawaiian diacritical markings.
