Aaron J. Salā to Serve on HTA Board
In June, the HTA welcomed Aaron Salā to its Board of Directors. He will serve as an expert on Hawaiian culture practices, replacing Kumu Kawaikapuokalani Hewett who served on the board since 2004. Salā's background expands beyond Hawaiian culture and history. An accomplished recording artist, he received the Nā Hoku Hanahano Award in 2006 for Most Promising Artist. Read More

Increases in Airlift for Second Half of 2011
Our state has seen a welcomed increase in visitor arrivals and spending, and looks forward to greeting even more visitors through the second half of the year.
In June, United Airlines resumed flights from Los Angeles to Hilo and added once-weekly nonstop service from Hilo to San Francisco. The visitor industry can also look forward to the establishment of a new route in the fall as Asiana Airlines begins direct service from Incheon, South Korea to Honolulu. Read More

Hawai'i Hotels to Offer Chinese Language Programming
The HTA is committed to working with our industry partners to extend our aloha to the growing China market. Currently, there are limited Chinese language resources available to Chinese speaking visitors in Hawai'i. To begin to address this issue, China Television (CHTV), with assistance from the HTA, developed a Chinese language welcome video that will be shown on the new CHTV Hotel Channel beginning July 1, 2011. HTA Spotlight: Mālama Nā Honu's Mission to Protect Hawai'i's Green Sea Turtles
Mālama Nā Honu (MNH) is an organization supported through HTA's Natural Resources Program, which works to to respect, enhance and perpetuate Hawai'i's natural resources to ensure a high level of satisfaction for residents and visitors. MNH's mission is to protect the Hawaiian green sea turtles through education, public awareness and conservation in the spirit of aloha. Through their Education and Conservation Project, MNH educates beachgoers on the honu's past plight, its comeback and ways to protect it. Read More

More than 800 Attend Concert to Support Relief Efforts in Japan
The Aloha for Japan campaign continued its efforts to offer financial assistance and support to the regions in Japan that are still recovering from the devastating tsunami and earthquake that struck in March. Donations continue to pour in through the sale of the Aloha for Japan T-shirts and stickers, various events and collection points throughout the state. Read More
