Greetings!

Mitch and Amy Robins
With Spring just around the corner, we are proud to share with you some new plans that will be blossoming in the months to come.

As you will read about below, we have made some exciting developments in the direction of our cancer research, for 2010 and beyond.

The Teen Activity Room opens this summer, and we are outfitting it with all the amenities to provide our in-patient teens with professional and peer support, as well as plain fun, while they are going through difficult times and treatments.

Along with many terrific Seany events coming up, the big news- for all of you Michiganders- is that we are coming to Southfield's Skyline Club for a special event in June. We look forward to seeing you there; please see below for more details.

Finally, as always, we thank you for your amazing support. The growth and progress we experience comes from you and others whom you have reached out to, on our behalf. We are so grateful for your help and your belief in our work.

Beginning with this issue of the newsletter, we introduce you to our 2010 Board of Directors.

Sincerely,

Mitch and Amy Robins, Co-founders

Seany Supports Local Researchers
Meet the Seany 2010 Fellowship Recipients

Congratulations to Dr. Lisa Hartman and Dr. Courtney Lyle, recipients of the 2010 Sean Lewis Robins Fellowship in Pediatric Oncology.  Each fellow receives a salary to support them in their second and third years while they conduct medical research at Rady Children's Hospital San Diego and the UC San Diego.

The Seany Foundation strives to empower the researchers of today to help find cures and treatments that will lead to a better tomorrow for kids with cancer.

Meet the Seany 2010 Board
Featured Board Member: Bill C. Siegel, PE

Bill SiegelWilliam C. Siegel is President and CEO of Kleinfelder Group.

Mr. Siegel is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Kleinfelder Group, Inc. (Kleinfelder), an employee-owned science and engineering consulting firm providing solutions to meet our world's complex infrastructure and natural resource challenges.

When asked why he joined The Seany Foundation board, Bill explained, "I strongly believe in using some of my free time to support charitable activities and have a long history of involvement in various groups.  When I learned that I would spend significant amounts of time in San Diego, The Seany Foundation was a natural fit.  It is for an excellent cause, is led and supported by the nicest and most dedicated people, and is making a meaningful difference in the search for a cure and in the lives of those impacted.  Pretty simple."

Seany Room Nears Completion

On schedule for completion in Summer 2010, the Seany Teen Room will host a variety of activities for adolescent patients in the new hematology/oncology wing at Rady Children's Hospital San Diego.

Angela Horak, Certified Child Life Specialist at RCHSD, explains, "It's a place where they can be normal, where they can be around other teens who are going through the same thing... Teenagers often feel like they're afterthoughts when they are in a children's hospital. They are surrounded with all of this cute kiddy stuff and volunteers and doctors come in and talk to them like they're little kids."

She asserts, "They'll recognize [with the building of the teen room] that something's been done for them and that they're important... It'll give them a space that's theirs."

The Seany Foundation would like to send a special thanks to Nintendo for donating a Wii system, along with the games "Super Smash Brothers Brawl" and "Super Mario Galaxy", and the software for the Wii Fit Plus and Sports Resort, for use in the Seany Teen Room.

If you, too, would like to donate items for use in the Seany Teen Room, please email us.

Laughs Raise Funds and Awareness
NCT vs. SDSU
On Thursday, January 28 at 7:30pm, the National Comedy Theatre College Team played head-to-head against SDSU's Improv team in a fun-filled night of competitive improv comedy.

A portion of ticket sales were donated to The Seany Foundation.  Seany Foundation co-founders, Mitch and Amy Robins, attended, and referee Marina Mastros spoke to the audience about the cause just prior to the show.  Special thanks to Marina Mastros, the NCT College Team, and SDSU improv for their generosity.
