News from Dubuque Jaycees

We will meet at Frentress Lake at 11:30 a.m. and will leave promptly at 12 p.m. Bring your beach clothes, towels, beverages (preferably no glass, because it's not allowed on the beaches) and a dish/snack to pass.

We will cook out at the beach and hotdogs/brats will be supplied, but feel free to bring your own stuff to grill.

Directions to Frentress Lake:

Head out on Hwy 20 towards Galena, IL
Take a right onto N Frentress Lake Road
Take a right onto West Gill Road (right after block and brick by the sign to the Silver Eagle)
When you reach a "T" take a left (the boats and buildings should now be on your right)
Follow the block retaining wall on your left
Stay left towards the white tanks
The boats are located on the "C" dock (second group of slips with blue roofs)

David Beyer Benefit

Volunteers Needed for Family Benefit

Jaycee Stacy Beyer Raap is in need of about 40 volunteers to help with her uncle's cancer benefit on July 10, from 2-7 PM at the Peosta Community Center. Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve food and to help clean up after the meal.

Stacy's uncle, David Beyer, was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. All proceeds will go to David's ongoing medical expenses and the American Cancer Society.

Lost Island Water Park

Come join fellow Jaycee's for some fun in the sun at Lost Island Water Park! Feel free to bring your spouses, significant others, friends, children, etc. This is a family friendly event!

We will be meeting on Saturday, July 30th at 9:00AM in the Wal-Mart parking lot (the NW corner closest to Lowe's) where we will carpool to the Water Park (feel free to drive yourself as well). Drive time is approximately 1 1/2 hrs. Ticket prices are as follows:

Group Admission Rate: $23.00 (tax included)
Children 3 and Under are FREE!
*Only Cash and Checks will be accepted. Please make checks out to the Dubuque Jaycees.

For lunch, we will be meeting in the Water Park parking lot grass for a picnic style lunch. We will provide plates, napkins, utensils and sandwiches for everyone. Please bring your own beverages and a dish/snack to pass. Please also bring chairs, blankets or towels to sit on during lunch. Departure time is TBD that day (the Water Park closes at 6:30PM).

Help People in Poverty on the Road to Success

Each year the Family Self-Sufficiency program at the City of Dubuque Housing hosts an event for people in poverty to help them prepare to re-enter the workforce. This year it is on Wednesday, August 10, from 3-7 PM at Prescott Elementary.

The event includes workshops on how to prepare for an interview, how to create a resume and cover letter, how to correctly fill out an employment application, and how to keep a job, as well as mock interviews for practice. After attending classes, participants can get a free, gently-used business outfit for future job interviews.

Volunteers are needed to keep the event running smoothly, including a mock administrative assistant to sign people in and direct them to the correct room for their interviews or classes. A highly organized individual is also needed to keep the interviews flowing, as well as to help with advising on professional attire.

Golf Outing

We will be having our annual golf outing at Bunker Hill on Friday, August 26th. This is a 4 person best shot event. Tee times will be from 12-2 PM.

Dinner will be catered by Poor Man's Catering and will be served at 6 PM in the clubroom. Dinner will consist of prime rib and all the fixings. Door prizes will follow dinner.

Cost:
Golf and Dinner - $50.00
Golf Only - $35.00
Dinner only - $15.00
Dinner RSVP's are due by August 21st.

Volleyball Players Needed!

The Dubuque Jaycees will have sand volleyball teams competing on Wednesdays and Sundays this summer at Courtside, located at 2095 Holliday Drive in Dubuque.
