HELLO ALL!!

We were able to end the October with four new Jaycees putting us closer to the goal of ending the year at 160 members and sharing the Junior Chamber movement those in our community.  Next week we have the Family Beer Tasting event on Nov 4 and we will have an in chapter challenge that night - for every new member signed you and the new member will be entered into a drawing for an iPod Touch from the local chapter, so now is the time to reach out to all those you think would benefit from being a member of our chapter!  Also, for some more incenctive, our top recruiter at the end of the year is going to be winning an iPad which will be handed out during Pass the Gavel.

If there is someone you would like to get signed up, please send their contact information and date of birth to me (c_puetz@hotmail.com) and I will see we get them added.  Also, if your company would like someone to come in and talk about the Jaycees, please let me know!!

Thank you,
Chris Puetz

Membership Challenge from the State

We are in pretty good shape and extremely close to growth for the month, but we still need to make up for some lost members from a few months back. Currently we are -27 YTD. We need to sustain our chapter sizes to ensure long term stability. If your chapter isn't at even or at growth yet for the year, now is the time to put the wheels in motion to get to growth. So, here is the October challenge:

Each member that recruits a NEW MEMBER this month will get a scratch off lottery ticket! You could win thousands of dollars!

Each member that recruits TWO NEW MEMBERS will get their choice of a die-cast Iowa, ISU or UNI bank! These retail for $20-25 each and are a great way to show school spirit! You get to choose which bank

you'd like!

Any member that personally recruits THREE NEW MEMBERS this month will receive a JCI Iowa logo polo, t-shirt or button down shirt.

The Dubuque Jaycees do not intend to sway anyone's vote one way or the other but rather to provide facts as they are presented to educate members on matters in our community.

A Message from our Friends at the Diamond Jo Casino
GAMING IN DUBUQUE COUNTY

Whether you work for a business that sells goods or services to Mystique Casino or Diamond Jo Casino or both, you supply an exciting industry that has a dramatic impact on our community. This November, two questions will appear on Dubuque County ballots: one to continue gaming operations at Mystique Casino and the other to continue gaming operations at Diamond Jo Casino.  It is important for you to understand the role casinos play in Dubuque County.  It's also important for people who live in Dubuque County to cast their vote supporting both casino referendums on November 2, 2010.

Gaming is BIG for local Business
Mystique Casino and Diamond Jo Casino participate in the Buy Iowa First Program.  Our casinos purchase nearly all of the goods and services they need from Iowa and in many cases, Dubuque, businesses.  By choosing to spend money locally, our casino's reinvest in our community and help support Dubuque businesses and local jobs. Last year the two casinos spent $104,000,000 on goods and services from Iowa businesses.

Tourism Boosts Dubuque's Economic Engine
Last year alone, Dubuque casinos welcomed more than 2.7 million visitors. When visitors come to play, they also spend the night, dine at restaurants, buy gas and snacks and shop at local stores.  When you consider the millions of dollars spent by casino visitors in our community, it adds up to an even bigger economic impact for Dubuque businesses and supports even more local jobs.

Charitable Giving
Did you know that DRA receives 100% of its funding from Dubuque's two casinos? By working together, Mystique Casino, Diamond Jo Casino and Dubuque Racing Association make great things happen all over the Tri-States. In 2009, local casinos distributed more than $4.9 million dollars to local non-profits. They provide important funding to health and human services, education, arts and culture and more. Plus, team members from both casinos volunteer for local organizations and participate in community fundraisers.

Commitment to Responsible Gaming
Although most adults use gaming for the entertainment it's intended to be research shows that about 1-3% of adults can be problem gamblers. Local casinos distributed more than $330,000 to the Responsible Gaming Fund last year. This fund helps educate people about responsible gaming and provides gaming treatment to those who need it. Both casinos work with Substance Abuse Treatment Center (SASC), the local gambling treatment provider and participate in the statewide self exclusion program to help problem gamblers get the help they need.

It's up to you to help local businesses and our community by voting Yes/Yes for gaming.  The gaming questions will be on the back of the ballot in the third column.  Please vote "Yes" to continue gaming operations at Mystique Casino and "Yes" to continue gaming operations at Diamond Jo Casino.

Early Voting is Easy
All voters may request an "Absentee Ballot" and vote early. In this day and age when our lives are busy, it's good to know that Iowa voters can request an Absentee Ballot even if they plan to be in town on Election Day.  "Early Voting" simply means that you request a ballot now and receive the ballot within a couple of days. When you receive the ballot at home, simply complete it, place it in the secrecy folder and return it (in the Auditor's pre-paid envelope). That's it!  When you vote early there's no waiting in line or rushing to the polling place after work or even running late and missing your chance to vote!

If you Absentee Ballot Request Forms you can find them at: http://www.sos.state.ia.us/pdfs/absenteeballotapprec.pdf
