It's Convention Time!
Year End All-State is in Dubuque
February 5th & 6th

Year End All State Convention and Awards Banquet will be at the Holiday Inn in Dubuque this year!
Visit http://www.iowajaycees.org/allstate.htm for more information and the tentative agenda for this year's All State.

For those interested in participating in competitions in Dubuque, the prepared topics are as follows:

Speak Up: In the 1960's, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his powerful "I Have a Dream" speech during tumultuous times in our nation.  What is your dream?

Write Up: Should there be a term limit put on how many times, whether consecutive or separate occasions, that a person can be Governor in the state of Iowa?

Prepared speeches should be 4 to 6 minutes in length and essays should be no more than 500 words typed, double spaced.  In regards to Speak Up, I wanted to give a disclaimer that all speeches are given in front a panel of judges (2 to 3 people) and not in front of the entire establishment.  For those who never competed before may not have known that and hopefully that will help increase participation :).

There will also be debate, interviewing, and Jaycee Jargon available as well.  The time slot is 1:45 to 2:45.  Check your agenda on Saturday to know where these will be located.  I encourage everyone to participate if you can, even Chapter Presidents and state officers.  There is much to be gained, so don't miss out!

Friday dress code:
Casual with Chapter shirts if you have them

Saturday training dress code:
business casual to business

Saturday banquet dress code:
formal

Saturday night concert
there might be a theme that night, if there isn't then it's casual, chapter, regional or state shirts

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.  If there is a competition that you would like to participate in...ask, we may be able to accommodate.  Also this participation helps you gain a degree.

Upcoming Events in Our Community

The 2nd annual Behind the Scenes event at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is scheduled for Sunday, February 14.  This event is open to all paid guests to take a self-guided tour through the normally, off-limits, areas in the basement of our building.  The basement houses the Archive, Maintenance, IT, Exhibit and Husbandry Departments.  Guests will be able to visit these areas to see what the daily operation is like 'behind the scenes'.

The River Museum needs volunteers to help patrol the area and keep guests going in the right direction.  The tours will start at 11:00 am and will end at 4:00 p.m.  There are two shifts: 10:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 1:15 - 4:15 p.m.  Please contact Vicky Sutter if you are interested in helping!
