"I Can" PSA now Showing in Movie Theaters Across the Country 
 
In the month of October the Campaign for Disability Employment has teamed up with AMC Movie theaters;the "I Can" PSA will be shown at theaters nationwide.  "The "I Can" PSA features seven people with disabilities sharing what they can do on the job when given the opportunity and reminds everyone that at work, it's what people CAN do that matters.  "I Can" has aired nearly 20,000 times on national television and cable stations and more than 20,000 times on national radio stations.  The video, radio and print versions of the PSA have earned a combined estimated $8.2 million in donated media time."  You can view the PSA by clicking here.

Welcome to the October edition of Career Support Spotlight!  October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and there are lots of exciting things happening.  The Campaign for Disability Employment has paired up with AMC Movie theaters, and the "I Can" PSA is being shown nationwide.  We also take a look at what Kathy Martinez, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy had to say about (NDEAM).  Finally CSS is pleased to announce that we have received our fourth consecutive three year CARF Accreditation for Community Employment Services!  Please feel free to contact janelle@careersupport.net with any questions or feedback.  Thank you for reading!
CSS Received Our Fourth Three-Year CARF Accreditation!
 
Career Support Systems is pleased to report that after the July CARF survey, CSS has been awarded its fourth three-year Community Employment Services Accreditation.  Read on for highlights from the CARF Survey Report:

  • "The dedicated, knowledgeable and professional owners have developed a strong teamwork effort and dedication to service delivery... past experiences for the owners provide an exceptional knowledge base"
  • "Impressive are the excellent personnel orientation/training process, the excellent outcomes measurement system... and the development of service delivery software"
  • "CSS is commended for creating and supporting many job opportunities for persons served... is recognized for establishing a solid, long-term relationships with community employers."
  • "Staff members present themselves as caring professionals providing the best supports possible.  They use meaningful, respectful language and are focused on understanding and supporting the persons served."
  • The Employment Consultants have done an outstanding job job with making good job matches and have maintained stead job placements in spite of the poor economy."
  • "Management displays an entrepreneurial spirit, having recently started up a Daylight Donuts that is providing excellent situational assessment sites for customers..."
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)

"Congress designated each October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This effort to educate the American public about issues related to disability and employment actually began in 1945, when Congress enacted a law declaring the first week in October each year "National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week." In 1962, the word "physically" was removed to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. In 1988, Congress expanded the week to a month and changed the name to "National Disability Employment Awareness Month."   Click here to read Kathy Martinez' NDEAM message.
