Greetings! Perspectives Counseling Centers

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!

It's amazing how much "stuff" there is to fit in the time we have!    Oh, and how time flies!

We've got some great news!  We'd like to announce our new Director of Children's Services, Diana Jennings, MS, LLP.  Also, Les Morrison, MA, LPC is now Director of our new Marriage & Family department Congratulations to both of them for adding these titles & duties to their long list of accomplishments!

As busy as we are, we need to find time to take care of ourselves as well as each other.  We need to make time to learn and grow.  We need to think before we speak; to be kind.  Words have power.  Bonnie Nelson, MA, LLP, LPC has written a good article on just that topic!

Speaking of learning & growing....see our extensive list of workshops & seminars below.

Plus, keep your eyes & ears open for the many different places you'll find our highly qualified Clinical Team of our Speakers Bureau, speaking about topics in which they specialize.

Our Child and Adolescent Newsletters are nearly complete!  Watch for them soon in your mailbox & online.

The Fall 2012 Open House for our referring Professionals will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.  The topic is The YOLO Generation:  You Only Live Once.   The topic will focus on the extreme risk taking that our youth seem to have normalized.  You will see a separate invite soon!  Space will be limited.

Have a great time this fall.  Take care of yourself.  Remember, You Need Not Walk Alone.

The Power of Words  by Bonnie Nelson, MA, LLP, LPC

compass

Words have power. They have the power to encourage and they have the power to discourage.

Over and over throughout history we have been able to witness the power of the spoken word. For example, when Mohammed Ali began his boxing career many years ago, he used the powerful words, "I am the greatest." At that time, Mohammed Ali went by the name Cassius Clay and was a relatively unknown boxer. Ten years and thousands of repetitions later he was hailed as the greatest fighter of all times. He used the power of words in the form of an affirmation. Affirmations teach us to speak words in an affirmative manner to assist in bringing about the reality we desire.

My clients and my family will attest to the fact that I frequently "call them out" when they use negative words that are in direct opposition to what they desire to see transform in their lives. For example, statements such as, "I can't do this," or, "I just know I'm going to have a panic attack when I get on the airplane." These negative words will often ensure a negative outcome.

Try this experiment: for the next twenty-four hours, every word that comes out of your mouth will be stated in a positive, encouraging manner. How long do you think it would be before you slipped?

Together, let's challenge ourselves to speak words that will encourage, praise, heal and strengthen ourselves and others. Whoever can go the longest wins! Ready, set, GO!

If you or someone you know could use some encouragement or to heal from the past, please call us to make an appointment at 248-244-8644.

Thank you for your continued trust and confidence!
Sincerely,
