Greetings!
We are very excited to announce our Spring Open House presentation Plugged In or Disconnected: Exploring the Controversial Effects of Today's Technology. It is a timely topic that we are sure you will find helpful and informative!
Many of us are experiencing extreme upheaval in our relationships, our workplaces and maybe even our health. Perhaps we are responsible for others financially or otherwise. It may require us to take inventory of how we have been approaching self-care and managing our stress. See a great article below on this important subject from Maria Elena Dionisio, LMSW.
Perspectives Counseling Center is committed to serving the needs of our clients and our community. We are grateful for your continued support and referrals!

Self Care
by: Maria Elena Dionisio, LMSW
Where does self-care fit in? When do we find time for ourselves? If we don't, what are the consequences? If you think about it, doesn't it make sense that we address our own self-care first in order to have more to give to anyone and everyone we care for, personally and professionally?
What is self-care? I see it as a conscious method of managing one's stress levels. You may periodically decompress, but what I am referring to is an ongoing process of assessing and reassessing one's needs. Are we meeting those needs? If we don't, our relationships, our work and our health will undoubtedly reflect that.
The following questions are possible guidelines to use when evaluating your own self-care. Which ones speak the most to you?
- Are my relationships reciprocal?
- Do I allow my mind time to challenge itself as well as rest?
- Do I express my emotions appropriately?
- Do I spend time nurturing my spiritual side?
- Do I take care of my body with adequate activity, nourishment and sleep?
- Do I regularly schedule time just for me?
- Do I give myself permission to say "No" without guilt?
- Am I being true to myself in my relationships?
- Do I ask for help when I need it?
- Is my work truly satisfying?
