Spring:  The Newness of You

Maria Elena Dionisio, LMSW

It's easy to fall into our comfortable routines, but what if you allowed the energy of spring to bring about an energized new you?  What would YOU look like?

Perhaps the past year or so has been particularly challenging.  Many of us have lost jobs, homes, friends and/or family members or certainly know someone who has.  It can be difficult to reinvest in hope and ourselves when we are faced with such crises.

It may be comforting to remind ourselves that change is constant.  It is hard to embrace change when we feel such a loss of control over what is happening to or around us.  Often, if we take the time and courage to work through them, our greatest challenges prove to be our greatest accomplishments.

Outer change begins with inner change.  It begins with something small, like an idea, that light bulb above your head that dreams of something better.  I'm not talking about changing to please someone else.  This is strictly about you and your contentment with yourself.  You may start by taking notice of which areas of your life you are most resistant to change.  Are you happy with your physical self, your emotional self, your spiritual self?  Do you have people you trust to talk to when you feel the need?

Here are three simple ideas you can incorporate to bring about positive change in your life:

1.  Raise your awareness of how much you speak negatively of yourself, others or situations and replace those statements with positive ones.

2.  Turn off technology on a regular basis and clear your schedule for some "you" time.

3.  Be gentle with yourself and acknowledge each small step you take.

You Need Not Walk Alone.

Thank you for your continued trust and confidence!
