Claimant Caught Working on Project While Claiming Back Injury
This claimant made a Workers' Compensation claim after supposedly injuring their back in 2009. The claimant had been released to return to work and had not returned.
Alliance pursued the investigation and investigative results proved the claimant was working at a family owned restaurant. Surveillance showed the claimant working on a contruction project behind the building. The Claimant was observed operating a post hole auger, reaching, stretching, bending, leaning, and carrying wood without any sign of discomfort. It was also discovered that the Claimant worked in the kitchen in the restaurant and was able to stand for long periods of time, contradicting the original claim.
As a result of the thorough investigation, it was determined that the claimant showed no signs of physical restrictions resulting from the alleged injury. |

No Fault Disability Fraud On the Rise
According an article recently published in Insurance & Financial Advisor,
questionable no fault auto ins urance fraud claims are on the rise. Florida
& New York respectively had placed the first and second among the states
with the highest levels of dubious claims.
As reported by the National Insurance Crime Bureau, Nationally there was a 46%
increase between 2007 and 2009. These numbers have led to increasing new state
legislation to regulate and reform potential fraudulent claims. Many
legislators agree that large metropolitan areas are currently under siege,
without regulation they predict nearly $250 million in losses for 2010.

$25 Million Worth of Insurance Fraud Exposed
 In an article recently reported by Empire State News, a Manhattan-based Employment Company was accused of nearly $25 million worth of insurance fraud. During an investigation of unpaid debts owed to New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF), a series of fraudulent behavior was discovered on behalf of Eric Goldstein. Goldstein was unable to pay dues to NYSIF so he finagled his records to misrepresent the job titles of his employees and the amount of staffing the company had. When the company was denied further coverage for additional employees, he simply opened another company under GT Systems.
