Bexar AAA Caregiver Program Offers "Grandfamilies" Back to School Assistance
BAAA staff with Grandparent and Family | The 2010 Bexar Area Agency on Aging's Grandparents Back to School Campaign provided grandparents 55 and older raising children with a $75.00 tax-free Voucher from "Fallas Paredes" for each of the school aged children they are raising. The program assisted 110 grandparents. A total of 265 children will have new school clothes and supplies for August 23rd-the first day of school in San Antonio. Unfortunately in our community there are about 60% senior grandparents raising 3-4 grandkids that we were not able to assist due to limited funding. 82% of the grandparents assisted were 60 years and older. "The Bexar AAA Grandparents program is honored to provide assistance to these amazing caregivers. They are raising 'Tomorrow's Future' and deserve our help, said Nellie Garay, Bexar Aging Caregiver Support Specialist. For more information about the program, or to find out how your organization can donate to this program, please contact Nellie Garay at (210) 362-5271. |
