10 Tips for Writing Effective E-mail
Computer Keyboard
MailSome days it seems like we're drowning in e-mail. But there can be pearls of wisdom hidden in our inbox. What steps can you take to better the odds of your message being opened?

  1. Write a subject line that accurately describes the content.
  2. Use standard capitalization and spelling.
  3. Avoid fancy typefaces.
  4. Use attachments only when necessary. They take time to download and don't always translate correctly for people who are reading their e-mail on a portable device.
  5. Proofread carefully.
  6. Don't send anything that you wouldn't want posted with your name attached.
  7. Include a signature block that clearly identifies who you are.
  8. Don't hit "send" when you are angry.
  9. Try to respond promptly.
  10. Scan all your messages to make sure the person hasn't sent you a later version of the e-mail message.
One Social Site Doesn't fit All
Family With Computer
OneSocial media marketing is no different than traditional marketing. The more you know your audience, the more successful you will be at reaching them and capturing their attention.

Teens, Boomers and moms are three of the most desirable social networking groups. The goal is to learn where they spend their time.

For example:
  • Data shows that nearly 72% of young adults and teens use social networking sites, compared to 40% of adults 30 and over.
  • Of the younger generation, 71% regularly maintain a Facebook profile. Seventy-five percent of the older generation have a Facebook account.
  • Teens have not been drawn to Twitter or LinkedIn.
  • The number of moms who regularly use social media has jumped 462% since 2006.
  • Seventy-five percent of moms are Facebook fans of at least one company or brand.
First Impression is a Lasting OneFoster & Associates Headshot

FirstHow long has it been since you updated your headshot? We all know that first impressions are lasting ones. In today's competitive marketplace, it's even more important to present yourself in the best light.

Here are some photographic tips:
  • Wear conservative clothing in medium to dark colors. Don't wear white.
  • Women should not wear scarves or elaborate jewelry that will draw attention from their face.
  • Light blue or light gray shirts with conservative ties work well for men.
  • Photographic lights tend to drain the color from your face. Women should wear makeup for color portraits. Mascara and eyeliner help emphasize your eyes. A medium- to dark-colored lipstick with a matte finish is a good choice.
  • Using powder will help keep the shine off your face.
  • Remember, you want people to remember you, not your clothing!
