Beyond Organic
By
Larry Jones

Essential oil purity and quality is vital to essential oil therapy and should be the highest priority in using essential oils in treatment. Adulterated and low quality essential oils are an ever-increasing problem as demand outpaces supply. Using bad oils on a client, at best, results in a lower than expected curative effect, but worse, they may actually have a negative or toxic reaction in both the practitioner and client. Using pure and high quality oils are good for your client, business, and reduces your exposure to liability.
Currently organic essential oils are perceived as the answer to these purity and quality problems, but choosing an organic essential oil does not mean it is pure or even good quality. Organic herbs and food is an ideal that is worth striving for and it positively impacts our health. Unfortunately, regulating and verifying the organic status of essential oils is not so clear because there are no developed guidelines and routine analytical procedures.

Enhance Your Immune System With Essential Oil Therapy By Elizabeth Jones
is a dynamic healing modality that works at a cellular, molecular level as well as on an emotional, psychological level. Physically, it can be used as an immune stimulant to prevent infection and to mitigate symptoms of infectious disease.
The immune system is also an amazing, complex group of cells that are there to protect us from invading pathogens. The immune system has the ability to distinguish self from other. This is linked to a set of more than 50 genes, known as the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). The immune system will generally attack any cell with a foreign MHC. (1) Steve Van Toller. We will examine some lines of defense in our bodies and how to use essential oils to strengthen these barricades:
The first lines of defense are barriers like the skin, which makes it physically difficult for bacteria, virus, or fungus to penetrate into the body. Sweat, sebum, and mucous membranes all have a pH balance and some white blood cells to discourage and cleanse bacteria from entering internal passageways.

Essential Oil of the Month - Thyme Marches On
By Katie Novak
Every month we feature an article on an essential oil. For the month of March we are featuring Thyme (Thymus vulgaris or Red Thyme.) This herb is from the Lamiaceae Botanical family, the same family as Lavender, Rosemary, Peppermint, Marjoram, Melissa, Basil, Clary Sage, Sage, Hyssop and Oregano to name a few. Many of these plants are herbs we use in cooking in order to flavor our foods and tantalize our pallets.
These plants are very aromatic and each contains essential oil chemical constituents that protect the plant from animals (especially deer), insects, bacteria and fungus. These chemical constituents are the immune system of the plant. When we (humans) distill the oils from these plants and use them in the many ways we use essential oils, we too are enhancing our immune systems.
