Declaration of Independence: Taking Ownership
Summer has arrived and this is the time of the year that we as a country celebrate something dear to all who live here - our independence as a nation. In the beginning of the formation of America our forefathers fought against significant odds to gain self reliance and the right to determine the direction of this great land. July 4, 1776 the US Declaration of Independence was signed with pride to declare to the world that we as a people took possession of this land. This weekend millions of Americans are gathering to celebrate with inherited pride that "we are the owners of this land ". To the present our independence has been threatened from outside our bounders as well as from within. Yet some of the worst threats to our independence and darkest days have happened due to periods of complacency, depression, doubt, and unrest or just a taking for granted ownership. Without our firm testament of ownership to this country it would be under the rule of another.
"Personal ownership is the act, state or fact of taking ownership of your whole self. Personal ownership changes your mindset and opens yourself to your authentic self. " - Dr Bill
So why do some of us treat our country, objects and property differently than ourselves? I believe it is because we have been taught to keep the deed to our house, our cars and receipts for our appliances in safe deposit boxes "in case" they are questioned, but what about ourselves?
Our birth certificates note that we are the property of our parents. Many times we are told "we own you" by parents, religion, groups or sport teams. Many have been taught that accepting and focusing on self is wrong. Owning one's abilities, character, qualities or talents is self centered.
What we have not been taught is that personal ownership is the key element to success and personal freedom. It is time that we shift our mindset. We need to create Declaration of Ownership papers for our authentic self to announce that no one has the power to own us but us. Make this the year that we proclaim our personal freedom to the world. Create a document, sign with a witness and then store it with all our other precious papers in your safe deposit box. Declare your independence and freedom through ownership. It will amass confidence.
