Welcome to the Tollefson Enterprises Newsletter |
| Greetings!
I am sure that many of you have heard the news by now that I am no longer with WiiT at Hollywood Pavilion. The out pouring of well wishers has touched my heart and their validating words about what the program had done to change the lives of thousands of survivors over the past 15 years. I may say good bye to WiiT but not to my dreams of helping those who wish to heal themselves. I will continue to grow, write, teach and help survivors. No matter what I will stay loyal to my self values. Because of this transition I will now have the opportunity to help survivors through my Life Coaching Practice. It is through this avenue that I can focus on teaching survivors to move forward rather than looking at the past. So am I grow and develop new ways of moving forward I will everyone current of my thoughts through my website, my blog, my newsletters, and my Facebook posts. I am so proud of how strong so many of you are in displaying your courage with this change. Thank you for all your support and loyalty throughout all the years and through this difficult time.
Sincerly,
Dr. Bill |
Values: The Basic Ingredient of a Healthy Life
How do values affect my life? I am excited to talk about this subject and how values affect everyone's life. In my work with survivors, I interact all time with individuals whose personal values have been either altered or they are forced to live by someone's values. For a general viewpoint, our country, culture and family systems are all based upon core values. Core values make up the fabric of these institutions. How each functions depends on the values it upholds. Let's look at the definition of the word so that a bridge of understanding can be built. A value is a principle, rule, standard or quality that is considered desirable and defines the individual who holds it. Whether consciously aware or not, every human has a core set of values. Examples of core values are: · Accountable · Compassionate · Creative · Independent · Kind · Loyal · Responsible · Self-reliant · Trustful · Worthy Moreover, what I believe to be true is that core values are one of the basic aspects in the foundation of the human personality. Without core values, nothing can be built upon, like character, qualities or a belief system. When an individual's core value system is eroded or broken so are the individuals' self esteem and worth. Just like the institutions sited, values also affect one's ability to function ethically, morally and successfully in life. One thing that I have seen clearly is that when a person's accepted or engrained value system is broken their level of self esteem drops significantly. So in order to become healthy, one would need to evaluate their core value system and make sure that it is solid and that you have ownership. The accompanying article will help you successfully look at the strength of your values, so you can begin to live with a solid foundation.

Updating your Personal Values
Making permanent changes in your thinking is not easy. Those old patterns are engrained in you after years of practice. But after analyzing decades of clinical research and case studies, I have discovered there are simple things you can do to snap the cycle of old thinking.
1. Make a list of all the values you live by, in detail. 2. Identify the source of where or who the values came from (family, spouse,
mother, father, grandparents, teachers, peers, siblings....) 3. Rank each value to its importance to you. 4. In reviewing your values decide whether or not is it a current value you
want to live by. 5. Once evaluation is completed, pull out all the values into a new Self
Value List that you want to continue to live by and that you can commit to.
6. Create and add new values to your newly created Self Value List. 7. Once your list is complete, mentally commit to it; take ownership of your
new list.
8. Finally study the list daily for six months and put them into action by
displaying them within yourself and others in your life.
Working through this and incorporating these new values will enhanced your belief system, worthiness and improve your self-esteem. Begin to function better in life through specially designed self values. To get your FREE copy of Dr. Bill's Personal Values Worksheet from his workbook click on the link below.
