Here Comes the Sun

We hope you have survived our very wet and cold spring and are looking forward to sunnier and warmer weather as much as we are.  Here is some news of upcoming solar and energy efficiency events.

Green Building Symposium - Ultra Energy Efficient Homes

Saturday, June 4th - 1 to 4 pm

Port Townsend Community Center

Power Trip Energy is pleased to announce a unique event on making your new or existing home ultra energy efficient.  We have brought together four local north Olympic Peninsula businesses that specialize in designing, assessing, and retrofitting new and existing homes (including historic structures) to be as energy efficient as possible.  This event will be a great opportunity to learn the latest about energy efficient home construction and to get answers regarding the best ways to reduce your home's carbon footprint.

The symposium will be held at the Port Townsend Community Center, located in uptown Port Townsend at 620 Tyler St.  The event is free and open to the public.

Presenters will include:

Architect Kevin Coker will focus on techniques for making existing homes more energy efficient including historic homes

 Coker Photo

Richard Berg of Terrapin Architecture who will speak about the Passive House design concept.  A Passive House uses 90% less energy for heating than a conventional home and is so well insulated and sealed that it is primarily heated by passive solar gain and by "passive" heat from people and electrical appliances.

Green Building 3

Ann Raab of GreenPod Development will present the GreenPod home design, a compact, energy efficient home utilizing modular building construction methods and structurally insulated panels (SIPS).

Green Building 2

Tim Halpin of Pacific Inspection Services will cover the use of thermal imaging to assess building heat loss and will offer strategies for sealing and insulating existing homes.

Green Building 1

In addition to the presentations there will be a Q & A session.  Participants should bring specific questions about making their own homes more energy efficient.  For more information about this event please contact Jeff at email:  jeffr@powertripenergy.com or 360-301-9019.
