Limiting Liability & Company Property

One of the most important steps after setting up a corporation or L.L.C. is to transfer corporate property into the name of the corporation or L.L.C.. Since one of the benefits of having a corporation is to protect against liability, using corporate property will help insulate you from personally being liable for accidents incurred while using that property.

But, did you know you can protect real estate property from your company's liability? By setting up a second corporation that holds title to any corporate real estate, creditors and claimants cannot reach that property if they sue the original corporation. Set up a second corporation as a real estate business and have the original corporation pay rent to the second corporation. The second corporation doesn't even need to turn a profit, just make sure it exists as a second separate entity.

Corporations and L.L.C.s are valuable tools to protect your assets when used correctly. Be sure to follow the rules and keep corporate formalities. If any trouble arises, your personal property and assets will be protected. Talk to the attorneys at Sivia Business and Legal Services to discuss incorporation options for your business.

Do you need an Employee Handbook?

In order to avoid future disputes and to preempt any employment questions, your business might consider getting an employee handbook.

An employee handbook will help your business think about and refine company policies. It might provide an opportunity to have your business evaluate compensation, benefits and potential disruptive issues.

Additionally, an employee handbook will motivate your employees by providing them an outline of your expectations of their duties and by letting them know the benefits of employment, including vacations and holidays.

Finally, employee handbooks could avoid contentious legal battles in court. So, an employee handbook can help your business save time and money. Talk to the attorneys at Sivia Business and Legal Services to discuss your options for creating an employee handbook.
