United Way Annual Meeting & Campaign Celebration
The United Way of Douglas County Annual Meeting and Campaign Celebration, February 23 at Maceli's, recognized hundreds of volunteers, thousands of volunteer hours and a projected campaign total of $1,700,000 for the 2011-2012 Campaign. In light of all the challenges facing human services, the community continues to be generous, allowing United Way Community Partners to continue providing their vital services in Douglas County aligned with the Community Goals of Education, Health and Self Sufficiency.
Special Thanks to our Community Partners volunteers who helped serve our guests! Pictured here are (left to right) Priya Mishra, Sarah Jane Russell, Joan Schultz, Theresa McGuire and Deborah McMullen.
The United Way combined three events into one evening, all sponsored by Maceli's. John and Rosy Elmore hosted the reception for the 2011 United Way's Leadership Givers, and applauded the generosity of the over 475 individuals who committed $750 or more annually to support local health and human services. Collectively Leadership Gifts totaled more than $650,000, and 33% of all leadership givers increased their pledge during last fall's campaign. Charles and Kathy Branson were introduced as the 2012 Leadership Givers Co-Chairs. CLICK HERE TO SEE A COMPLETE LIST OF LEADERSHIP GIVERS IN THE SPIRIT OF THE KAW VALLEY.
Kim Bodensteiner, Lawrence Public Schools Chief Academic Officer, addressed the Leadership Givers about the progress made on the Education Goal planning, and the needs of children in our community.

UNITED WAY ANNOUNCES BORN LEARNING TRAIL IN LAWRENCE
| |

The United Way, in partnership with the City of Lawrence Parks & Recreation and the Douglas County Community Foundation, is sponsoring an interactive outdoor trail for parents and caregivers to celebrate learning with young children. The Born Learning trail is included in the Master Plan for Deerfield Park, located at the school site between Princeton and Tomahawk off of Lawrence Avenue, and will be installed sometime this summer. Volunteers organized by the United Way's Roger Hill Volunteer Center will help with the installation of the signage, which is spaced at intervals along a walking trail to engage early learning. Colors, numbers, letters and observing nature are all a part of the Born Learning experience.
