FootReflexEver hear a story that shifts what you think is possible? Ever learn some skills that change your life? Ever touch somebody and change their life?  Last week I got a call from Susan Clark, BTI graduate and nurse/supervisor for our local Hospice program. Over the past two years her nurses aids (trained through BTI) have been applying Reflexology to terminal patients through the Hospice program. Susan called to inform me that one of their patients had gone into remission, was no longer in need of hospice and was now seeking a Reflexologist to continue his in home sessions.

Twenty eight years ago, my first bodywork instructor, Fred Friend told a story that completely shifted my perspective of what is possible in addressing serious pathologies and genetic tendencies. He shared  that ten years prior he took a weekend course in Reflexology. He then applied the skills he learned to his wife who had a terminal cancer diagnosis. He gave her sessions twice daily. She walked out the hospital in complete remission. When I met him, he was in his 80's practicing and teaching Reflexology as well as enjoying the life he shared with his wife.

The story I heard growing up was that cancer was in my genes, it was in my deck of cards. My childhood was marked by various family members having their colons removed from cancer, followed by their passing. Fred Friend's story gave me a very different perspective on the story I heard repeatedly from childhood. I began applying the techniques of Reflexology on myself and those I touched. Twentyeight years later I am still applying the techniques that he shared, retelling his story, as well as a hundred more stories of my own.

I pass on these stories, in hopes that folks will be inspired as I was to reconsider the stories they have heard from childhood about what is possible. I tell these stories to inspire folks to consider what is possible when they take on a daily practice of activating their body's natural capacity for healing. A great way to do this is to attend a BTI  intro, a course or a clinic. To learn more I invite you to attend out:
*next free intro,  September 16, 6-7:30pm (Fri)
*next weekend course, September 17,18, 9am-5pm (Sat, Sun)

"I had a car accident two years ago.  I was too weak from the accident to make it for a massage session. Nothing I had been trying medically was helping. In the past I had received many massages at the Institute that had helped me so I finally forced myself to come and received a Swedish. Following my session, the therapist recommended that I go to the intro to Reflexology. I loved it and decided to take the whole course.

Day one of class I came in with a cane for balance and walked out with no cane. I was able to put away chairs and help with the clean up.  I felt perfectly balanced. It was amazing! Normally at this time of day I am wiped out because of fibromyalgia but my energy felt great.

Day two of class I didn't need to sleep. I had lots of energy. (I normally sleep a lot during the daytime.) I was able to stand and do the golf ball exercise and now I am able to sit cross legged on the floor. I can't remember the last time I have been able to that!"

Day three of class I was able to do the opening exercise without my cane. I picked up the massage table and chair to set up my treatment space by myself. I wasn't able to do any of those activities before. I've never felt grounded like this in my whole life.

Day four of class I left the cane in the car. I went up and down the stairs like a normal person. I haven't done that since 2006. I used to have to go one foot at a time and pull myself up. I feel a heat through my body when healing is happening and I feel great. However I am sad about the class ending as I want it to last forever. I will do these techniques with my son because he has asthma and I tell him this has made such a difference in me that it could make a difference in you too."
