Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute Newsletter February 4, 2010
 Greetings!

AGreyMeridianThis week we commence our Pain Clinic on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. The next six clinics will specifically address head and neck pain: headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck and shoulder (not rotator cuff) pain.  And, next week we are offering a one time only Craniosacral clinic on Monday afternoon.

Getting Deep Tissue or Craniosacral bodywork are great ways to resolve head and neck pain and induce states of alert relaxation.  Both modalities are specific to addressing causative factors that give rise to head and neck pain. Deep Tissue works with slow sustained pressure on referral pain patterns and myofascial tissues. Craniosacral works with light, sustained pressure - the weight of a nickel - on the bones of the cranium. An additional benefit to receiving Deep Tissue or Craniosacral bodywork is the enhanced body awareness that carries into one's day. When we are in a state of alert relaxation, we start noticing what is happening to our musculature as we breathe, as we sit, as we hold our chin or jaw and can release tension as it arises.

This month SBBTI is being featured (see below) on our local channel 17 TV show, "From Rags to Middle Class", Thursday evenings.  SBBTI instructors will be interviewed in a three part series on the benefits of holistic bodywork and self care measures. Tonight Mary Sullivan and Matthew Jones will be offering some great self care tips drawing from Medical Qigong, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy.

We invite you to join us on Channel 17 tonight, in our ongoing clinics or an upcoming free introductory class.  May ease and awareness be with you.

Blessings,

Katie Mickey, Director

What is Possible with Deep Tissue - Releasing Muscle Knots
 Deep Tissue Massage
"I have used Deep Tissue on many of my clients with amazing results. Not only is it effective in releasing muscle knots but the effect radiates in a positive way into surrounding tissue.  Done correctly Deep Tissue has a profound and positive impact on a clients body."

What is Possible with Craniosacral Therapy - Expanded Awareness

AGreyMeridian"The craniosacral treatment put me in a profound meditative state.  I felt myself drifting into a deep inner space where I became very aware of subtle rhythms of body systems that are barely perceptible in ordinary consciousness.  At one point I felt a definite release of tension in my cranium - I must have been holding it for some time without realizing it.  All in all, I highly recommend this as a worthwhile form of therapy."
