Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute
Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute Newsletter August  2009
 Greetings!

Summer's close brings an abundance of new bodyworkers in our clinics- wonderful  talent- with big mitt hands and core strength grip.  This week we are offering Trigger Point, Swedish and mini BARS sessions at our free intro evening.

Receiving  bodywork, is a practice in itself of recieving. In a bodywork session, we receive a flood of new information. Information about how to relax, how to reset the tonus level in our muscles, how to move our fluids where they are needed, how to remove waste products from our muscles and organs, how to take a deeper breathe, how to trust and allow the confident touch of another and how to surrender the active mind to waves of peace and presence.

The information we receive  bypasses the conscious mind and taps directly into the intelligence of the body. The experience of receiving on the bodywork table can ripple into experiences of recieving within one's life-  as moments of synchronicity (when you meet someone out of the blue at the right place and the right time), as new insights (when the box you've been struggling with suddenly pops open and new ideas flood in), as new opportunities (when doors open and road blocks clear) as self acceptance (when  all the judgements you hold about yourself melt away and you are filled with  a sense of grace and wholeness).

We invite you to join us in receiving at our clinics, our Bars intro evening and in all areas of your life.

Blessings,

Katie Mickey

What's Possible with Bars
Multilevel Transformation from wheel chair confinement, OCD, anxiety, depression, obesity, PMS, acid reflux, insominia  and chronic pain to high level function and ease

Anatomy
"After receiving Bars my anxiety disappeared. The releif in my body was so immediate that pain became an odd experience rather than every waking moment. I began to sleep without medication. After each bars session, I had so much more energy. I would get so much more done in a day. The mood swings, heart palpations, acid reflux,  disappeared as well without drugs. Prior to my cancer surgery, I would have such intense PMS, my husband would run my bars and I would have relief- mentally and physically. In the months following my Bars training, I lost 200lbs without dieting, and went from being confined to a wheelchair to being physically active- walking, gardening, and even dancing. "
Audrey Lynette, Bars Facilitator

8 years ago Audrey was diagnosed with  OCD, anxiety, depression, acute obesity, chronic pain syndrome and 4 years later cancer. She weighed 450 lbs, was confined to a wheel chair and livig on a disability pension. Concurrent with the healing of her body, Audrey has  facilitated hundreds of people in private sessions and group classes internationally. She teaches Bars, Access Consciousness and Right Body for You.

What's Possible with Trigger Point
Pain Relief

Anatomy
"I suffered with sciatic pain for many yeras. John Harris healed me through the use of Trigger Point bodywork. It has been 3 months and I am still pain free."
Gina Hessian, 550 student, and current therapist in the Trigger Point clinic

"I was having a lower back problem. Anytime I lay on my back or my belly it would hurt, aggravated by touch. John took me through some PNF stretches that are part of TP protocol . I got immediate results withiin 2 minutes. I had had the condition for 12 years. I can now lay on my back and stomach with no pain."
Vince Dutton, current 550 student and therapist in SBBTI's Trigger Point clinic

Trigger points are areas of hyperirritability within soft tissue that develop when a muscle is injured or overworked.  Trigger points are characterized by local tenderness and referred phenomena, which can include pain, tingling, numbness, burning or itching. SBBTI's Trigger Point Therapists apply direct pressure techniques with fingers, thumbs and tools to assess and alleviate trigger points, as well as cross fiber friction techniques for breaking up scar tissue, releasing adhesions and speeding tissue repair. The work is applicable to a variety of syndromes including: dizziness, earaches, nausea, numbness in hands and feet, headaches, neck and jaw pain, low back pain, hamstring pulls, tendonosis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome and assorted myofascial pain syndromes.

What's Possible with Swedish Massage
Relaxed and Alive

"I feel totally releaxed and at peace. My body feels like a calm vibration- a sensation of being relaxed and alive. During the session, I would go into these spaces of heaven- like all is well. When she was doing my head chills ran down my spine. I'm really becoming aware of how importaqnt touch is- this kind of touch. Ah!  Heaven!"
Jodi Sutton, SBBTI clinic client commenting on her Swedish session with Shawna ____
