"Before SBBTI, I had lots of training in BEST but it felt like I was floating in my practice. SBBTI has given me a strong foundation and springboard to launch my practice. It was through the Level I clinics that I experienced a shift in my private practice. There, I met Suzanne Rierdon from the Santa Barbara Wellness Directory and Families ACT. She introduced me to so many new clients in her network, from there my practice has really taken off"
   - CYNTHIA SHIPMAN, Level I and Foundations of Subtle Energy Therapy graduate. Cynthia maintains a private practice in BEST, Subtle Energy, Swedish, Life Coaching, and Nutritional Kinesiology working with humans and animals.

"Wow, I have been in the bodywork field for 29 years and I have never felt the energy in my body or in a client's body, the way I feel it in this class.  I am so excited. You know, my ankles get very swolen from poor circulation. After a reflexology session they are normal again. Yesterday, I felt like I had gained 5 pounds- my whole body was swolen. So, I decided to do Reflexology on myself. I saw results immediately. Today, the swelling is gone and  I feel lightness in my feet.  I feel like I lost 5 pounds!!."

"I am really enjoying this adventure studying with Mathew Jones.  Mathew is amazing- what he is up to in his life at his age.  My sense is that everyone is getting fed in class with Mathew. During Five Element Physiology, I had an ah ha moment, when I realized that I had Liver/Gall Bladder Qi stagnation, rather than the Glaucoma diagnosis I had been given. Glaucoma generally means there is too much pressure on the optic nerve-  I had three times the pressure of what is normal. In private sessions, Mathew showed me how to normalize the pressure on my optic nerve, through movement, Chinese Herbs and Nutrition.  I attribute my healing not only to the work but Mathew's talents and his gifts. I look at it as a miracle. Now I maintain my optical nerve balance completely with exercise."

Are you getting fed in your practice?
Are you willing to be nourished in your body and in your work?

Katie Ocean
  Greetings!

What we have found in the practice of giving and receiving massage is that there is a state of being that can arise, that seems to transform techniques and manipulations into a healing experience that is deeply satisfying and nourishing to the body mind. When the experience occurs we may wonder, "What was that? And how can I get there again?"

What we have found is that there are simple practices that we can bring to the practice of massage that will feed this state of being. It may feel like a switch just got flipped in your brain or your cells begin to vibrate, your thoughts get still and your body feels light and flowing. Once we have experienced this fundamental shift, we can start to notice when we are experiencing it and when we are not. We can begin asking, "What is required here that will allow greater ease and fluidity? What movement, pace or pressure can allow all of this to change?" What energy space and consciousness can I be to allow all the cells in this body to receive nourishment? As a giver we can move our body with fluidity, our breathe with depth and continuity and our attention to the tissues beneath our hands. As a receiver, we can invite our body to receive the warmth and pressure of our partners movements, our breath to follow their breathe and our mind to be fed by the care and intention within the touch.

We sometimes call this being state, the zone or presence. When we experience this state, we never forget it. The desire to re-experience the zone, motivates the runner to push beyond their limits, or the rock climber to hang suspended on a vertical face hundred's of feet above the ground.  What is extraordinary about massage is that the zone can arise in a state of ease and as a shared experience- like a deeply satisfying  meal. In the classroom, the zone can arise as a community experience- like a fine feast. Then the question, "Am I willing to receive here? Am I open to being nourished?" begins to ripple throughout our experience of body, relationships and community.

In the following paragraphs, we invite you to hear what our graduates are experiencing in their practice. We invite you to explore the question "Am I willing to be nourished here?" "What else is possible, for yourself in your body and in your practice?"

Blessings,

Gratitude Prayer
We extend our gratitude to our firefighters and all the beings seen and unseen who have worked towards the fire's containment. We are grateful for the cooling of the air and the calming of the winds. May we join together in supporting those who have been displaced by the fire.
One of the awarenesses we can have as a bodyworker is that our thoughts and prayers make a difference. They can have a direct effect on our own health, that of another, and  the energy in a place. Prayers or thoughts can also have an impact on the weather. Renee Fleming and Neal Mayhr, our Foundations of Subtle Energy Therapy Instructors have developed a visualization protocol  for reducing the winds and heat present within the fires we have been experiencing of late. If you are drawn to add your focused thoughts to our current fire or possible fires later in the season, visit our website www.sbbti.com and look for the fire elimination protocol
