Washington, DC-After completing two successful examination cycles this Fall--for its Certified Wound Specialists Physician (CWSP) and Certified Wound Specialist® (CWS®) certifications, the American Academy of Wound Management proudly announces the certification of 20 CWSPs and 138 CWSs.
Launched in 2009, the CWSP was created in response to feedback received from physicians, to allow physicians to obtain an advanced level of wound certification beyond the CWS®. Currently, the CWSP is open to physicians and podiatrists who hold the CWS®.
Established in 1995, the CWS is the premiere multi-disciplinary wound certification organization in the country. It is open to physicians, podiatrists, physical therapists, and registered nurses who posses at least a bachelors of science in a life science field and a minimum of three years of wound care experience.
"We are now practicing in an environment where cost containment, pay for performance, and patient outcomes are paramount. It is critically important to show patients and payers that you have taken steps to practice at the highest levels utilizing evidence based protocols and best practices. In my opinion, certification is one of the elements required to establish credibility," said AAWM President Robert J. Snyder, DPM, FACFAS, CWS, FACCWS.
In addition to the CWSP and CWS®, the AAWM offers the Certified Wound Care Associate™ (CWCA®) credential, which is open to sales industry professionals, non-bachelor degree nurses, and allied health assistants, aides, and technicians, who posses at least three years of wound care experience.
