Press Release
Brattleboro, VT - August 1, 2011
Imagine interviewing a writer who is also an
ivy-educated Vermont cop, a death investigator for the Medical Examiner's office, and a former firefighter, EMT, historian, photographer, and newspaperman (among other occupations both in the US and abroad.)
"Mayor's skills are equal to the vigor of his imagination, and we are more than willing to take his work for every twist, every turn, and every thunderbolt." - The New Yorker
A strong, funny storyteller both on the page and at the microphone, Archer Mayor regales audiences by interweaving his own rich and varied life experiences with the intricate underpinnings and techniques of his writing. These include months of interviews, in-depth research into unusual locales, and an innate fascination with the quirks of human nature. All of which lead him down a twisting path of plot and character development that has become the hallmark of his twenty-plus books in the Joe Gunther mystery series. His compelling latest, TAG MAN, will be out this Fall.
Mayor gives us an insider's knowledge about what can and probably does happen in your town, and introduces people you could know (but maybe don't want to.) He engages the inquisitive imagination of his readers, and combines the familiar with the dramatically unexpected. These realistic and gripping police procedurals propel you to the front ranks of emergency services, and into the lives of those in dire need of their help.

About the Author
Archer Mayor is the 2004 winner of the New England Booksellers Association award for best fiction-the first time a writer of crime literature has been so honored. He is the author of the highly acclaimed, Vermont-based series featuring detective Joe Gunther, which the Chicago Tribune describes as "the best police procedurals being written in America." In addition, Mayor is a death investigator for Vermont's Chief Medical Examiner, a deputy for the Windham County Sheriff's Department.
"Dazzling" - The New York Times
Archer Mayor's Joe Gunther detective series, 19 books in all, is one of the most enduring and critically acclaimed police procedural series being written today. For years, Mayor has integrated actual police methodology with intricately detailed plot lines in novels the New York Times has called "dazzling," and Booklist has said are "among the best cop stories being written today."
