BUZZZZZZZZZ
|
With all the wet weather we've had lately, mosquitoes have already started to become a nuisance. Try these Mosquito Dunks in ponds and other standing water near the house to safely target just the larvae. Give these a try this season and get them before they hatch.

Spotlight On: Weeping Hemlock
 | Weeping Hemlock 5/6' specimen |
Here's and evergreen that makes a classic statement. A favorite with many plantsmen, Tsuga canadensis 'Pendula' (Weeping Hemlock) is a mounding, fine-textured evergreen with a graceful, weeping habit. It will slowly grow 5'+ tall and get as wide or wider. Careful staking can help it develop height and its own interesting character.
Plant in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained soil. Planting with other conifers, Japanese Maples and ornamental grasses will provide some nice winter interest. There are several to choose from, all are beautiful.

Question of the Week
Which is better, Healthy Start 3-4-3 -OR- Roots 3-3-3?
Answer:
As you can imagine this question could be debated for eternity.
However, there are a few differences between the two. The Roots 3-3-3 is one of the early forerunners in the category of organic derived fertilizers that greatly enhances root regeneration. While it is probable that there are microbes in Roots it is not stated on the label (a legal document), therefore the content is not guaranteed.
The one thing I do like is, the label lists 1% iron which enables
the plant to manufacture chlorophyll (kind of important!).
Healthy Start 3-4-3 has microbes listed on the label, so they are guaranteed to be there. It also has a more uniform granule, producing less dust when handled. It does not list any amount of iron, but this may not be immediately critical for root regeneration.
We have customers that swear by both products and it is important to use either one of them. Also be sure to follow up with additional fertility about 6 to 8 weeks later for continued establishment of your planting!
Submit your landscaping question via email to sbarbier@planterschoice.com and you'll be entered in a monthly drawing to receive 10% OFF your next purchase (pick up only, does not apply to deliveries). Please use "Question of the Week" in the subject line and let me know if you want your name and business mentioned. |
